Hampshire based company Percussion Play, creator of outdoor musical instruments for parks, care homes, libraries and schools, announced today that it has won a prestigious Queen’s Award. The company was informed that Her Majesty The Queen has approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation that they should receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. Founded in 2013 to bring musical instruments outdoors, Percussion Play builds and distributes its products for use throughout the world. Now in its 55th year, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise is one of the most respected and esteemed global business awards. The judges based their selection for this award on Percussion Play’s outstanding short-term growth in overseas sales during the past three years. An expanded demand for intelligently crafted and harmonised instruments increased international sales by 85 per cent, which now accounts for more than 72 per cent of total sales. Last July, Wentworth Wooden Puzzles based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire released an exclusive jigsaw puzzle, to say ‘Thank You’ to NHS Staff and all the other key workers for their essential work during the Coronavirus crisis. The aim was to raise £3,000 to donate to their local charity, the Wiltshire Community Foundation’s Coronavirus Response Fund. However, the puzzle received such an overwhelming response from customers, that far exceeded anyone’s expectations, it sold out in all three sizes and raise over £12,000 - over four times the initial target. Sarah Watson, Managing Director of Wentworth Puzzles comments: “We are delighted with this result, and would like to thank everyone who purchased our ‘Say Thank You with a Rainbow’ charity puzzle last year. Whilst we hoped this puzzle would be popular, more than 50 countries, its top five markets are USA, Australia, Denmark, Canada and China. Wentworth chose Mind and Dementia UK as their additional charities to donate to, as supporting mental health and wellbeing at a time when people need it most was very much close to their hearts. The exclusive and bespoke artwork for this puzzle, which Wentworth had specially commissioned, was created by popular British artist, Julia Rigby. The colourful puzzle image evokes a bright and hopeful community feel, and the signature whimsy pieces of the puzzle reflected new symbols of the pandemic, such as a facemask, washing hands, a heart and a rainbow.
