An elderly Paraguayan couple finally got married after living together for 80 years. From his wheelchair, Jose Manuel Riella, 103, promised his eternal love to Martina Lopez, his 99-year-old bride, who wore a long white dress. The ceremony was attended by many of their eight children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

EU DELAYS LIMIT ON CO2 EMISSIONS
The EU environment ministers agreed to revise a deal, reached in July, that set a limit of 95g per km for the average car. That target for CO2 emissions was to take effect in 2020. However Germany says the 95g limit should not take full effect until 2024.

General Information
Flows through a rugged limestone mountain range that defines the border, passing through two national parks along the way, the untamed main Nam Wa is considered the toughest water rafting in Thailand with the pumping grade ranging from 2-5 and the long 80 km of team effort. To fully experience the whole route, you and your buddies have to spend at least 3 days in the remote area of Nan, physically and mentally challenge yourselves under the hot sun and sleeping in tents near the riverbank at night. This is a rarity in Thailand with only a few rivers offering such an exhilarating experience. Though, you might find the water seems to be risky; don’t let your fear keep you from having fun. There are several experienced rafting operators that (besides born and live along the river) value your safety above all. They will tech you about rafting and safety procedure before they let you get on the raft. If there are any emergencies situations or signs of danger such as flash flood or heavy rain, good operators will take you out of the water immediately. Make sure everyone in your group can swim and find a good trustworthy operator that has reliable reputation, safety equipments and insurance before going into the water, you will be fine.

Preparation As the main Nam Wa is a little bit hard to access by cars, the operators will prepare foods, camping equipments, and rafting equipments for you to spend nights on the beautiful riverside. So, you don’t have to bring your own. The most important thing you should prepare is yourself. You have to be physically fit enough to spend 3 days in the wild steam. And you have to prepare your psyche that this river trip will not be a luxurious one. Eating basic but substantial (and delicious) Thai food, sleeping in isolated forest and going to a make-shift toilet are what waiting for you. Nam Wa River is not for everyone but if you are up for it. This is an unforgettable wilderness experience for you. Because you have to spend all day getting wet, you shouldn’t wear heavy water-adsorbing cloth, in case you fall into the water. You don’t have to bring many cloths in this trip; on thrilling adventure like this, no one is going to notice you wearing yesterday shirt. Bring comfortable clothes and may be an extra sweater for a cool night. No sunglasses, you will lose it. Also, it is important to wear shoes while you are in the river because you might step on sharp rocks. (I personally recommend sandals with straps.)

Other places you should visit There are some culturally-significant in Nan that you should visit while you are in the province. For example; the murals in Wat Phumin, Wat Phra that Chae Haeng (the must visit for people born in Rabbit year zodiac) and Nan National Museum.

How to get there By Car: From Bangkok - Take the highway no.32 to Nakonsawan then no.17 to Phitsanulok. Go along highway no.11 through Prae and turn to no.101 until you see the Nan Province welcoming sign. From Chiang Mai – Take the highway no.106 and turn left to no.11. Drive along the route then switch to 101 until you arrive at the province. By Bus: There are air-conditioning buses departing from Mochit 2 Bus Terminal (Bangkok) everyday. By Plane: Solarair provides 1.5 hour flight from Bangkok to Nan.

While it’s tempting to pack your vacations full of exciting events and interesting places, sometimes the best vacations are the ones you don’t plan. Vacations are about discovery, not accomplishment. The more you plan, the less you give yourself the opportunity to find out more about yourself and the world around you. Before you sign up for a package tour and lock yourself into a set itinerary, decide to follow your bliss. Make your next trip serendipitous. The following 5 tips will show you how:
1) Location, Location, Location. Like real estate, serendipitous travel is all about location. To find a great jumping off point, start with pictures. Try National Geographic Magazine, or spend some time on Flickr searching for things like “the best time of my life, relaxing, exciting, or unforgettable.” You’re much better off searching for an emotion than a specific place. As you look at the pictures, you’ll get a stronger sense of what you like. Next, modify your search to include more specific language like beach, rock climbing, or show. Once you’ve narrowed down your alternatives, start writing down the names of specific places that appear in the pictures. You’ll probably end up with a list of 10 to 20 practical locations.
2) Chose the best time to travel. Oddly enough, one
of the most common mistakes when planning a vacation is choosing the wrong time to visit. While it may seem like a great idea to visit Yosemite in July, once you arrive, you’ll probably spend more time in traffic than you do on your daily commute. Why would you put yourself through that kind of stress? On the other hand, if you’re going to Rio de Janeiro for Mardi Gras, there’s really only one time to go. Before you select a specific time for your vacation, try to imagine what it would be like at that time. Again, doing photo search for the time and place where you are planning to visit will give you a good idea of what the real thing will be like when you get there.

3) Leave your crap at home. If you need to
bring a DVD player on vacation, you’re not really going on vacation. You’re staying home somewhere else. Do yourself a favor and unplug. If you can’t fit it in an overnight bag, then don’t bring it. Unless you’re going on “Dancing with the Stars” you really don’t need 3 evening gowns or 12 pair of shoes. Traveling light will give you the opportunity to change direction at a moment’s notice. If you need to buy gear when you get there, the only thing you need to pack is your credit card.
4) Find the crossroads. It’s virtually impossible
to catch a whim at a hotel or restaurant frequented by visitors. You’ll just end up doing the same things everybody does when they come to town. When you arrive at your serendipitous location, you’ll need to find the crossroads: typically a place where life happens. Some great places to start are farmer’s markets, festivals catering to ethnic groups, or places with outstanding architecture. In foreign countries, often the best place to start is a city park on a Saturday afternoon. In a pinch, try taking a ferry, train, or bus by following people who look interesting to you. You never know what may be around the next corner.
5) Start Walking.
Sometimes a great vacation starts with a great walk. Start somewhere central and follow the crowds. You’ll never go wrong following a wedding procession or a marching band. If you get lost, always choose the largest street when making a turn. Sooner or later, you’ll find to something familiar. If all else fails, flag down a cab and head for a major landmark.
6) Say Yes. Nothing exciting is ever going to happen to you if you don’t say yes. Serendipitous travel, like improvisational comedy, is based on the premise that anything can happen. Possible starts with yes, not no. If someone invites you to their wedding, say yes. If you see a weird story in the local newspaper, go see for yourself. If you’ve heard about crop circles or alien abductions, why not have a look? 7) Put away your watch. There’s no reason you have to get up
at 8 in the morning or eat dinner at 6. Eat when you’re hungry, sleep when your tired. If you want to spend 10 hours at the beach, then do it. Serendipitous vacations are all about the id, not the ego. Become a hedonist. Sate your senses. Fill your memory with things that are worth remembering, like sunsets, cobblestone streets, and mountain air, not traffic jams and two for one coupons. While serendipitous vacations can change your life, they’re not for everybody. Your willingness to let go of the predictable and venture into the unknown comes with its own problems. If you’re not comfortable with the idea that you could be sleeping on someone’s couch or sitting up all night in the airport once in a while, then you probably won’t like this mode of travel. Like anything, serendipitous travel involves both risk and work. But if you can handle the ambiguity of not knowing what’s going to happen next, you will find a whole new world of opportunity open up to you. Great things could be just around the corner. Why not give it a try?

Hokkien Mee Hokkien doesn’t refer to a province but to the dialect spoken by the enormous number of Chinese who immigrated to Singapore from the end of the 19th century through the first half of the 20th. They brought their cooking style with them, and today hokkien mee can be found throughout Malaysia. The Singapore version is distinctly different, and is served as a stir-fry instead of a soup. The base of the dish is a combination of egg and rice noodles in a sauce of coconut milk, onions, cardamom, cinnamon, curry, ginger and garlic. Adding to the delight are prawns, or prawns and chicken, and hard-boiled eggs.

Rojak It’s hard to describe this delicious mélange of fruit, vegetables and crunchy fried dough. Think of it as Singapore’s version of bread salad. Typical ingredients in vegan rojak are pineapple, cucumber, jicama, bean sprouts, deep-fried tofu and fritters. The dressing consists of shrimp paste, sugar, lime and chili. Non-vegan versions of rojak contain fried cuttlefish or squid. To sample this dish at it’s best, look for a stall that’s preparing batches as orders come in rather than one with prepared dishes waiting to be bought.

Chicken Rice Along with chili crab, chicken rice is most often named as Singapore’s national dish. The name isn’t showy, but chicken rice is comforting and subtly addictive. The dish is made by steaming chicken in scalding water with garlic, ginger and onion, then serving over rice cooked in chicken stock with garlic, ginger, and fresh cilantro. It sounds simple but the tenderness and succulence of the chicken leaves most people craving more.
