Beatlemania in Liverpool
David is in Liverpool. Read his diary and write the days next to the pictures. Monday Liverpool is the Beatles. We went to the Beatles Story, all about the Fab Four. They invented* ‘cool’. Did you know the Beatles did 275 gigs* between 1961 and 1963? In the afternoon we went on a Magical Mystery* Tour on a bus to see places from the Beatles songs. We saw Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, and Paul McCartney’s childhood* home. Tuesday We went to the Museum of Liverpool life. The city is famous for trade, football (Liverpool and Everton) and horse racing. In the afternoon we took a ferry across the River Mersey. We saw the world famous Liver Building. It’s got two metal birds on it called the Liver Birds. Wednesday Liverpool is a city of docks* and boats. We went to the Merseyside Maritime museum. It had really good models of ships and a history of slavery*. On the top floor was a great café.

Thursday We took a boat trip from the Pier Head and saw great views of the skyline. Then we saw sharks at the Blue Planet Aquarium – it’s got the world’s longest walk through an underwater tunnel. It was cool seeing all the sea animals. In the afternoon I took a photo of the Cavern Wall of Fame, which has all the names of artists and bands who played at the Cavern – that’s a club. Friday Shopping! It’s not my scene, really. But Albert Dock is in warehouse* buildings by the docks – I love boats and there are lots of cafés as well as shops there so I was happy. After lunch we had our last trip on the water in the Yellow Duckmarine! Get it? The ‘Yellow submarine’! Dad sang the song – how embarrassing*!
Which things would you like to do in Liverpool? You can choose three. Discuss your ideas with your partner.
