Ancient cultures relied on Seers for wisdom and insight. They may have been the locale Priestess in the Temple or one of the Moon Goddesses/Gods the temples were built to honor. The temples were most often dedicated to Goddesses because the moon was symbolic of the feminine forces. These energetic forces were considered the more sensitive of the two natures (male/female) and therefore more able to receive deep insights and information from other realms. These ancient Seers were tied to magic, prophecy and as mentioned above, the Moon. From Spider Woman to Kali, they were recognized as powerful beings, knowledgeable, mysterious and discerning. Young women were dedicated to the service of Temple Goddesses developing their Seership under older priestess' guidance. Most of the ancient Moon Seers were represented by certain symbols and images that reflected their strengths and influences. Use these in your meditations and divining work to commune more fully with the Seer of your choice. It's important to study these symbols and images, along with the teachings and energies associated with the Seer you have chosen so that your ability to connect and resonate with that Goddess is fully immersed. Strengthen your connection by visualizing the symbols and images during your meditations. Draw the symbols on your altar cover or on your body. Add candles in the appropriate colors and scents and anoint them for the purpose of connection with the Moon Goddess. Musical instruments and trance dancing are also used to communicate with the Moon Goddess. Now during your meditation, visualize that particular being coming and communing with you. Ask her to present you with a gift that will represent her and the powers you want to divine. Once you have received that gift add it to the symbols and images you visualize for channeling with your Moon Goddess. The more you work with your chosen Goddess, the stronger the connection will become.
Here is a short list of Goddesses and the associations. You may choose one of these, but a bit or research and study may reveal someone you resonant with more fully. Hecate A Goddess of the Moon, she is represented by a black-hooded cloak, white and silver. Work with Hecate during the dark cycles of the Moon. Maat A Goddess of Truth, her colors are violet and her stone is lapis lazuli. Her symbols are scales and feathers. Merlin A Celtic Prophet, his color is green and his symbol is the harp and staff. Odin A Teutonic God of Foresight, Prophecy and Poetry, Odin's symbols are the raven, wolf and spears. His color is indigo. Narns The Teutonic Spinners of Fate. Their colors vary, but the symbols are the spinning wheel, the bee and swan pairs. Bomu Rambi A West African Goddess whose symbol is a necklace in the shape of a crescent moon. Her colors are red and black. Changing Woman A Navajo Goddess whose symbols are a bed of flowers and the rainbow. Her colors are all the colors of the rainbow. Huitica A Columbian Goddess similar to the Teutonic Narns. Her symbol is also spinning and weaving. Kwan Yin A God who most expresses his feminine aspects so that he appears mostly as a woman. The symbols for Kwan Yin are the lotus and children. Ishtar A Goddess from Ancient Sumer who holds a double-serpent scepter, has milk producing breasts and a lion for a companion.
