What is Bulletproof Coffee?

Bulletproof coffee is quickly becoming a fast-growing diet phenomenon. First blogged by trendsetter Dave Asprey in 2009, Bulletproof Coffee is said to boost cognitive function along with various other positive health effects. Although these claims have yet to be verified by any governmental resource, the drink is quite popular with top entrepreneurs and athletes.

The most interesting fact about Bulletproof Coffee is that it mixes ingredients that do not sound as if they go together. Putting butter in black coffee does not seem tasty or even edible at first glance; however, the reason that the beverage has caught on so much is because of its taste.

The Recipe for Bulletproof Coffee The three ingredients for making Bulletproof Coffee include black coffee beans, butter and oil. However, each of these ingredients must be a special type of bean, butter and oil. The coffee bean that is used in bulletproof coffee is known as an “upgraded coffee bean that is especially low in mycotoxins. The butter must be unsalted and grass fed. The oil is a special concentrated version of MCT oil. Once you have all three of these ingredients, you can brew bulletproof coffee by adding 1 to 2 tablespoons of the butter to 1 to 2 tablespoons of the oil and the beans. The drink will become frothy after about 30 seconds of blending.

Asprey himself has claimed to benefit from an IQ boost of more than 20 points by consuming Bulletproof Coffee every day along with other “health hacks, as he calls them. Other benefits that he has claimed include weight loss through ketosis.

There are some nutritionists, albeit along more traditional philosophies, who say that the use of medium chain triglycerides in weight loss and the regulation of cholesterol is not done very much in the current medical landscape. This does not mean, however, that the technique is useless. Medium chain triglycerides are quite evident in Bulletproof Coffee.

The drink itself has definitely been making the rounds in celebrity circles. Much of its current fame can be attributed to the fact that it is accepted in every celebrity event where it is introduced. The buzz started in LA among professional basketball players who were looking for an edge on the court. It spread to Silicon Valley and was picked up by publications as revered as the Huffington Post, CBS and the Independent. It does not seem to be losing momentum anytime soon.
