Architecture Portfolio Jonas Althuis

Thank you for looking in my portfolio. This is a collection of the most recent architectural projects I’ve worked on during my studies. My name is Jonas Althuis. I graduated from the Delf University of Technology with a master’s degree in architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment in November 2023, also having done my BSc in Architecture there, as well as an exchange semester at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden during my master.

I have a broad interest in the many aspects related to architecture, cities, and urban planning, which I’ve not only explored in my studies but also in my hobbies of photography, film-making, and writing. With my graduation project, the biggest and most recent project I worked on, I explored many new research and design techniques. In the research phase, I examined the possibility of applying film-making to the architectural design process, combining design techniques with the story-telling capabilites of film. Later on, I explored the re-use of existing materials as a sustainable building technique in my own design for a research station in the future port of Ro terdam. These are some of the techniques and themes I’m excited to explore further and learn more about.

I’m originally from Leiden, in the Netherlands, but I spent a large portion of my youth living abroad and atending international schools. So not only is my spoken and writen English excellent, but I’ve seen a lot of the world and I’m very interested in different cultures and languages.

I would describe myself as entrepreneurial, hard-working and solution-focused, and though I function well under pressure or in a deadline situation, I also appreciate slow and careful contemplation. I’m creative, but also thorough and detail-oriented, and I’m good at working either in a team context or independently. I’m a curious person and I enjoy learning new things, especially new skills such as research methods, design techniques or computer programs.
