The portfolio is structured in a way, so it’s easy to get a quick overview of the projects I have made, simply by looking at the pictures. For further explanation of the projects, the text at each page is meant to give a deeper understandig of each individual project.

I’m an Industrial design student at Aalborg University and part time photographer based in Aalborg. A part of my education was undertaken at University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. The portfolio will represent my work the last four years. Both individual

projects as well as group projects. At Aalborg university we work in groups. In all the projects that have been made in groups, I will explain what have been my focus area and participation.

- WHAT DO I THINK ABOUT DESIGN?

Curiosity and play. These two words describe me as a designer and photographer. The importance of constantly being curious is my driving force in the design work. When others say things are impossible, I want to disprove them. I want to show that the impossible is possible. Sometimes it ends in excellent projects where we push ourselves further than we thought was possible, and other times project management is forgotten a bit. The project is going well, but documentation is lagging behind. I believe in setting the bar to what is believed to be unlikely, in order to achieve goals that may not quite meet what you wanted - but at least you have achieved much more than you would with an easy, realistic goal. I believe that inspiration makes us better designers.

Besides classic Danish designers, I find great inspiration in Dieter Rams & Marc Newson. I think good design is represented by a minimalist expression that allows the user to explore and the product to share space with other products without stealing too much attention. We have a responsibility as designers to think about the environment. This is achieved through material selection and to a high degree production methods. We, as humans, are born with an instinct of curiosity and play. If you get a product in your hand as a child, you explore it, tare it apart and find inspiration. This instinct seems to me to be important in the design process, and to me, the magic happens when Design, Play and Engineering comes together.

E D U C AT I O N In 2014, I started at Aalborg University on Health Technology (Civil Engineer). I soon found out that the education lacked the creative aspect, and I changed in 2015 to Architecture and Design. I love group work and to cooperate with each other. There are good competences in other colleagues, from whom you can learn a lot. Since I am often the one who takes the lead in a group, I missed to test my individual design skills. dertook a semester in Sydney at UNSW. UNSW is one of the most recognized universities in Australia, and I was allowed to stand on my own and work on my individual skills. Combining Aalborg University and the University of New South Wales has been really rewarding to me, and I feel strong as both individual, but especially in a group. In the summer 2020 I graduated from AAU.

duct). I’m good at taking initiative. I am often an optismistic individual who sees opportunities over limitations. This is both my strength and my weakness.

PROJECT

Breaking down the communication barrier between instructors and skier, the economic barrier that keeps the target group away from the instructors, and being able to

practice the instructor’s exercises while driving with family and being able to socialize is the focus of the project.

This master thesis is investigating the issues and barriers that occur between the professional ski instructors and skiers receiving ski education. The ski schools haven’t developed much in the last decades, but the sport of skiing has. The ongoing development of ski sport involves new technology, apps, ways of skiing, and the amount of people skiing. This leads to the instructors losing contact with the skiers in the level lower intermediate - advanced skiers. The skiers in this segment, however, want to improve but don’t feel they have the time or money to hire an instructor for a full day, as a ski vacation is an expensive vacation

and they have to hire instructors for their children as well. This leads to the instructors losing money, and the skiers don’t improve. This opportunity is the driving force of this project. The solution we have come up with through the design process utilizes newly developed textile technology, which, using pressure sensors and vibration motors, can read skier’s foot pressure and provide real time feedback. In this way, the skier and instructor can see what is going on in the foot of the skier, and the ski instructor can visually explain to the skier what problems he or she must work with.

THE NEW LEADER IN SKI COACHING The Nixt Ski Coach wants to rethink the way we teach people to be better skiers. We want to make it easier and more comfortable for the skier to improve their skills without losing precious time with family and friends. At the same time, we want to create a new tool for the instructors to teach the skiers—a solution where it is possible to know exactly what is going on in the foot. Through in-depth user research, analyzing, and concept development, we have a long with both the instructors and skiers developed a new solution that rethinks the concept of hiring a ski coach.

LIVE FEEDBACK WHILE YOU’RE SKIING Anders is skiing with the instructor Thomas. Thomas has seen what Anders needs to improve in his skiing, and he is skiing with way too much back weight. He needs to push more on his front foot when he is skiing. The vibrators turn on in the front foot every time the sensors measure to much back weight and 14

will guide Anders to press more on the front foot. Thomas can even with the app control the vibrators in Anders’s foot, and turn them on to illustrate where he needs to put pressure. After an hour, Anders is ready to learn his new exercise on the slope with his family and friends!

Press one short push and then another long push for 2 seconds to turn on. The battery indicators will light green. Do the same thing to turn it off. If all three LED’s lights, the product is fully charged. To use BlueTooth, hold the button for 3 seconds, and the light turns blue.

Just click the unit on to the base with the snapfit lock on the sides. Pull on the bottom groove to pull the device out of the base again.

S T U U O PROJECT

To create a standing solution which gives the child the best conditions when participating in the cooking sessions and at the same time is This project deals with the development of a children’s stool, with the aim of providing children and parents with the best conditions for cooking together. The focus of the project has changed continuously from focusing primarily on the children, to weighting children and parents equally high, to finally focusing primarily on the needs of the adults. This is particularly evident by the focus on implementing the kitchen aesthetic of the bar stool in a functional product.

The result has been a product concept that gives children’s furniture better functions than those found in the current market. In addition, it is integrated into the aesthetic context that characterizes modern kitchens and which appeals to the parents’ aesthetic style. By using a well-known design company as a reference, it is possible to create a design language that is recognizable as well as lean on this company’s business model. This also creates a financial incentive to implement the product in the market.

By tapping into the design DNA of a known brand, the product is instantly recognizable by the customer. This shortens time for the customer to get used to the product on the market. This also ensures that the quality and finish of the product is at the same high level as the other products. The production setup is key to the success of the product, by using the same as they are using already. The low investment needed and the short return

period is yet another factor that contributes to Strings success as a company. The STUUO concept is set out to create value for both the end user and String. The customer is given a product that makes a lot of everyday tasks easier. It implements two products in one and is one of few products that puts the aesthetic needs of parents in the spotlight.

How can smart control features be integrated in: oven, hob and hood in a single mobile device that can control these functions, both in-

side and outside the kitchen in a Danish home, so the family gets more spare time?

This particular study investigates the opportunities to contribute to the “Internet of Things� trend by creating a smart unit especially for the kitchen. The product of this project aims to

be useful for a typical Danish family living in a Danish house, who seeks a solution to acquire more spare time with the family when cooking meals in the kitchen.

T A S K The task was to create a product in the category: Interactive Digital Product. Through pre-studies, aW Costumer Journey, as well as tests of interfaces and hundreds of sketches, we created what we call ’’CRONOS’’. The name comes from the Greek word for ”time”, which has been a part of the focus on the product’s creation.

The product of this project HAD to be useful for a typical Danish family living in a Danish house, who seeks a solution to acquire more spare time with the family when cooking meals in the kitchen. An existing software technology – Home Connect – is used to support the opportunity of the product.

S O L U T I O N We designed a combined remote control and monitoring device called �Cronos�. The product creates an overview and control over a number of elements in the cooking, thus releasing more time for the user. The user with this product can get an easier and less stressed cooking process. The strength of the product lies in the fact that it can be used both in and outside the kitchen. By making a combined monitor and charging device, we make sure that the product is not lost in the home. Likewise, the product is designed so it visually and aesthetically fits into a Danish home, with design details and materials that support this.

The design is characterized by its use in the zone between the kitchen and the living room. This is emphasized through material choices and features. When testing specific operating areas, the product has achieved the most optimal user interaction, as regards reading and operation. A live and hierarchically divided monitor interface, gives the user quick access to the information. A similar interface on the remote control unit together with the common familiar touch interface, recognizable and quick navigation through functions.

How to prevent frost damage to the vines in a

profitable and sustainable way?

This project deals with frostfighting in vineyards and how it can be done in a more convenient way than existing solutions around the world. The solution this project presents proposes a way to fight frost in a more efficient, cheaper and more strategic way, using modern technology to collect weather data. The dangerous kind of frost, which can have massive fatal consequences for the wine farmer’s vines, is only dangerous in a limited time span: every spring in April and May, depending on geographical locations. It’s dangerous because it happens simultaneously with the sprouting period of the vines, which is when the vines

are most vulnerable and exposed to frost. This project aims to solve the problem by using weather data on a local scale to get precise measurements, which is then used to fight the frost where it’s needed. Guldbaek Vingaard, located in the northern part of Denmark, was used as the project’s target group. They are the third biggest winery in Denmark and concern themselves with white cool climate wine. Besides having Guldbaek Vingaard, a company by the name Ceptu - which provides the app service “FieldSense” - is also used in this project as the supplier of the weather data and technology for this purpose.

At Aalborg University we are used to identify a problem and work problem based. In this project however, we wanted to work opportunity based. Finding an opportunity within a company they have never seen before themselves. Making contact with our case partner GuldbÌk Vingaard, mapping the winegrower’s workyear, we quickly

Especially the aestethics where prototypes and foam models were build along sketching. Renderings and the product folder were also key activities.

PROJECT

Develop a heater that can be customized to a specific café’s individual environment, add value to the service the café offers and

supplement the cozy atmosphere a heated outdoor environment creates.

Gathering around something cozy, or as Danes calls it ’’hygge’’, is a big part of the Danish culture. Especially this ’’hygge’’ is happening in the restaurant industry among other things. When you visit a café, it is rare to get a culinary experience, but to focus on being together and socializing. The cafes in Aalborg are frequently visited by young people as well as the elderly, both outdoors and indoors, regardless of the season. When the temperature drops, various types of heat sources are used, including carpets and terra-

ce heaters. This project focuses on designing a product that can contribute with heat, while at the same time enhancing the feeling of being together. The product must be a collection point during café visits, and act as a secondary heat source for both hands and another add-on. Through the design process, Inelco A/S, which is currently producing and selling heat blowers, is spared with the purpose of designing a product that could potentially be of interest to Inelco A/S.

The Senta Heater can be used for different purposes. When the heater is open, it keeps your hands nice and warm. The shape of the heater keeps your hands warm, without warming up your drinks. You might even catch yourself too late for your next event.

Senta can also be used on other occasions, e.g. keeping a meal warm. The heater functions as a plate heater, so you can enjoy a shared plate of food or snacks with your beloved ones. [ LOCAL FOODS ] In the last century, people have moved from country to city, which has given a great opportunity for supermarkets to blossom, and food to be produced massively. With great focus on healthy food in recent years, as well as general environmental concerns, it has created a contradiction to this mega trend. A new trend called ’local foods’, where people seek back to where the food comes from, and skip the supermarket as an intermediary. They want to have the full experience from farm to table, which has created opportunities for food communities in the cities, where the customers can pick up vegetables

from local farms, new supermarkets selling loose products, where the customer themselves brings packaging, and farmers selling directly from the farm to the consumer. In Denmark, there is a new trend of farms selling milk directly from the farm using a vending machine, so the farmer does not necessarily have direct contact with the consumer. It makes it more convenient for both farmers and consumers, as they can collect fresh good milk every hour of the day. Trying to make it as convenient as a supermarket, but with fresh dairy or food.

[Customer] With the app service the connection between farmer and customer is very convenient. In the bottom of the milk bottle is a weight sensor, that senses when the bottle is empty. The SigFox sensor gives the user a message on the phone saying ’’do you want to order a new bottle?’’. The customer can also, with help from the weight sensor, easily use the bottle when baking or cooking. In the app, the user can find recipes with local foods. [Farmer] The farmer gets his/hers own company webpage where he/she can give information to the customers. Handling business hours, set up what products they sell and most important: get information from the user when they need more milk. The farmer gets a great overview of how much they should use for private market or the supermarkets.

The bottle can be seen used in a farm in Odder, Aarhus. The vending machines lets customers buy fresh milk from the farm with the use of their own bottles.

S U R F In surfing there are different kinds of surfboards. One of the most typical and oldest surfboards, are the ones that are called Longboards. The longboard is typically 280 cm tall and 65 cm wide. That makes it a difficult object to carry under your arm. When you go surfing you typically carry your car keys, or home keys and some money, which is really difficult to keep safe when surfing. A lot of different solutions is on the market but none of them offers a integrated solution. I’ve decided to design a ergonomi-

G R A B cally easy way to carry your surfboard, which is easier than current products on the market, while having a safe way to store your small objects such as keys and money etc. The product needs to work even if it gets sand and water on it. The form language also needs to follow the surf environment, making it attractive to the surf community. The product’s context is city beaches, town beaches, populated beaches and urban environments.

P R O C E S S

One of the most challenging parts of my process, was to achieve the curvey but yet strict organic form that surfboard has, translating it into my product and find the most effective best manufacturing technology for this form. In my research, I found that it was relatively easy to add function in the form, when I was molding it anyway. So the more function the form had, the less steps was needed in the manufacturing process. I also found that it was easy to mold in other parts, such as

the safety box, lock and wires. Again having fewer steps in the manufacturing process. It had a huge impact on my overall design and my approach as a designer, and the overall form might had been different if I’ve chosen a different material or manufacturing technology. In the beginning I thought about making the backplate in aluminium, and use screws to attach the safety box to the backplate, but instead I went with plastic, and molded the box into the backplate.

The simple design language, the simlple colors and the light wood makes it a Nordic interpretation of a folding shelf. The shelving is for private individuals and is not modular, which means that the customer gets a ready-made furniture where they don’t have to decide on the actual

design of the shelf, but can only tilt shelves down according to their own needs. The materials and the aesthetic expression are more aimed at the Northern European audience, who are in bright colors and light woods.
