LOOPY HEDEN PROJECT: BACHELOR PROJECT, INDIVIDUAL LOCATION: HEDEN, GÖTEBORG SEMESTER: THIRD YEAR, SECOND SEMESTER ASSIGNMENT: Housing project on Heden STUDIO METHOD: Create three units designed from a thesis. Design them well in detail and stack them in a defined pattern. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CREATE SMALL, PROTECTED AREAS IN AN URBAN SITUATIONS SUCH AS HEDEN? My goal was to encapsule small, green courtyards. I did this by surrounding the courtyard with a 5m thick circle. This was then split into three pieces, the units, that together formed a closed circle. I then raised the short side of the unit so that it inclines 1 meter from to lowest point to the highest. This means that when you create a circle with three units; the end will be 3 meters higher than the start. Joined together with any other full circle they create a loop which enables the social life to spread out and move around on top of the building.

The large units is 120m2 and contains various public functions that are suitable on the ground floor. The basic layout is for a grocery but can be changed into library, cafĂŠ, gym etc. Inside the loop its either used as a courtyard for the small units sitting on top or as something that can be used by the function inside the unit, for example outdoor seating or outdoor yoga classes.
The medium units are 90 m2 and contains a kindergarten for 10 children. Here, the loop creates a great area for the children to play in. Through the glass facade facing inwards the adults can have a overview of the kids playing.
The small units are 60 m2 and contains one two-bedroom apartment. You enter your apartement from the ramp that spirals up on the inside of the unit. This side is more closed to respect the privacy between neighbours. The outside of the are mainly made out of a glazed facade that provides a great view of Heden. The apartment have no courtyard, instead the void in the middle are used for vertical communication and for trees to grow in.

HEDEN, GOTHENBURG Heden is a central open space in Gothenburg, today only occupied by football pitches and parking. Because of its central location it needs to be used in a more effeicient way. The football pitches are still kept in the middle and the units are stacked so that they get higher towards the edges, meeting the height of the

ASSIGNMENT: Desig a small pavilion from a choosen theme. Step by step focus on
particular parts of the project, entrance, construction, light etc. Final step was to place it on the site and design the surrounding.
RESULT:Five activities connected to the theme withdrawal were chosen. For each one
a specific volume were designed according to the purpose. Ceiling height, direction of windows, zenithal light etc. were designed differently for each activity. The sleeping area has a roof window to watch the night sky, the study has a window towards west for studies during the afternoon. The single-seating area has a small window that frames the view and the social area has a horizontal window looking out towards a wide, open field. The volumes stacks vertically from the open entrance, the social area, the more private activities to finally end with the roof terrace in the tree tops. A vertical movement from public to private.

Around the volumes a modular 1m x 1m steel construction is created. To make the space between the construction and the closed volumes a transitioning zone we used metal raster-panels as facade. The north facade is closed with white, solid metal panels to create a contrast from dark to bright when you circulate upwards in the pavilion. Finally, vertical windows are created along the stair so that each corner you turn you have a new view.
MY ROLE: Full design lead. Models were buildt together, all other materials seen is produced by me.

PHASE: 1
PHASE: 2
PHASE: 3
In phase one the idea of designing specifically for each activity and then place them vertically in an open construction was born.
In phase two the pavilion became more compact. More activities were introduced and the volume were used more efficient.
To regain a lighter feel, the pavilion were placed on 1m steel bars of the same kind as the rest of the construction.
Problems like not enough enclosed space and inefficient use of the space were discussed.
Windows and roof windows were design in both the volumes and the shell.
PHASE: 4 In phase four we placed the pavilion on the site. The site is a big grass lawn on the schools campus. In the middle there’s a long and narrow hill with trees on both sides. Like a tree alley just waiting for our pavilion. Since the pavilion has a slim and light shape, it blends well into the trees. Some adjustments were made like mirroring and adjustment of some windows.
To simplify the road to the hill and to give a hint that the pavilion is there (when the trees are full with leafs it’s almost completely covered) we designed a stair that’s also is used as seating for the students on campus. The stair is turning from west to south for maximal sun exposure.

fiume PROJECT: SPA, 2 PERSONS LOCATION: HOTEL GALIA, MILANO SEMESTER: FOURTH YEAR, SECOND SEMESTER ASSIGNMENT: Redesign of the spa in Hotel Galia, Milano. The spa is located on the 7th floor.
RESULT: Through a play with volumes
- balancing on the border between connected and disconnected we created a spa were the guest can float through the spa and experience it in their own way Like a river floating through stones the guests chooses their own way and their level of privacy.
MY ROLE: Full design lead. All materials seen is produced by me.

como center of mindfullness PROJECT: STADIUM RENOVATION, 2 PERSONS LOCATION: COMO STADIO,COMO SEMESTER: FOURTH YEAR, SECOND SEMESTER ASSIGNMENT: Reconstruction and redesign of the Stadio Sinigaglia, Como.
RESULT: The design started with removing
temporary seats on the west side of the Stadium and recreating the shape and symmetry of the building. But instead of creating a introvert stadium seating that only can be used a few hours a week we do it extrovert - towards the public area and the people of Como. The program is sharing the plot with the stadium but is targeting another group of the Como population. A center of mindfullness closes the circle and together with the stadium creates a place where you can challenge your brain, body and soul. In the area in front of the new building we create a circular public square defined by a thin roof hold by steel pillars. A cross cuts thorugh the circle - creating a connection to the building and on the second floor - study places with a view over the lake.
MY ROLE: Shared design lead. A very good and developing collaboration with a classmate from a different culture and different education. All materials seen is produced by me.

MEDITATION
After laying down initial program and concept a lot of effort was focused on the composition of the different pieces of the architecture. References such as Kazimir Malevich and Vasilij Kandinsky strongly influenced the design and has been a great interest for me since.
