The project proposes an urban village for creative communities. It seeks to create a city within a building, mixing programme across various levels and to develop complex interweaving of relations of living, working, production, and social life in specific urban contexts. The scheme offers potentials for robust intimate human interactions and the development of complex social networks that are conducive to creativity.

YEAR 5 | Project 3 | LIBRARY + HOUSING The project explores the idea of ‘civicness’ by developing proposals that provide for the needs of the local community. This takes two forms – a major institutional use, a library, that can educate people through a range of civic programmes; and secondly, a housing element that provides decent shelter. The areas the Old Kent Road, London’s inner city Borough of Southwark, have been stagnant due to social deprivation. This project would act as a positive catalyst for regeneration of the area.

YEAR 5 | PROJECT 2 | TRINITY CHURCH RENOVATION The church identify themselves as a urban monastery for serving the neighbourhood. Through bringing renewal to the community including business, public sector, education and social organizations, they believe the love for one’s neighbour could be demonstrated. In this regard, we consider spatial transparency and fluidity are the key elements for the church in serving this role juxtaposing with the nearby historical reclusive churches.

YEAR 3 | PROJECT 3 | THE CONSERVATORIE FOR MUSIC AND DANCE This project aims to create spaces in which people are engaged with performing arts through education and performances encapsulating the intrinsic theatrical experience. These spaces would promote the community ways of ceasing to be spectators and developing into agents of a collective practice, reconciling the human alienation.

YEAR 5 | PROJECT 1 | NIGHT AND DAY Through the erection of a Modern Maypole in the Strand, London, this group project aims to celebrate the phenomenon of the seasons, in particular spring and summer. With our maypole design, we hope to provide a space that allows people to escape from the hectic environment of the Strand, and allow them some time to restore their connection with nature and their senses.
