Purpose The purpose of the visit to the National Football Museum is to engage students in activities which relate to both football and the consumption of events. During the visit students will discover how a venue designs experiential activities in order to enhance the audiences consumption of an event as well as gaining an understanding as to how activities can be adapted to meet the needs of a range of consumer groups. In addition, there will also be opportunities to engage in both lecture and seminar activities which have been designed in order to support the submission of the coursework one assessment. Additional reading has also been provided in support of the activities, which can be accessed via Moodle.


1. Museum Tour During this thirty-minute tour of the museum you will learn how the exhibitions are designed in order to meet the needs of different consumer groups as well as developing an understanding of the factors venues consider in order to enhance the consumer experience. The knowledge gained during the tour can be applied to the design of the experiential event(s) included within the coursework one proposal, supported by relevant management literature.

2. Fandom Seminar The fandom seminar will provide an overview of fandom and fans as a subculture within society. An activity will be provided in order to enable students to gain an understanding as to how to engage with fans in order to enhance their experience of sports events.

3. Consumption of Events Seminar The consumption of events seminar will outline the difference factors which impact upon the experience of attending sport event. An activity will be provided in order to enable students to consider what type of activities will enhance a football fans consumption of a live match.

4. Fandom and Consumption of Sports Events Lecture The fandom and consumption of sports event lecture will be delivered by Owen Laverty, Head of Planning and Insight at Ear to the Ground. The Planning and Insight department is also known as Fanatic. The Fanatic team spend their time constantly talking to fans, tracking rituals, dress codes and language to understand fan behaviour better than anyone else. This unique fan insight is the cornerstone of all of Fanatics work.
