Abel Tasman born was in 1603 in lutjegast, a small village in the southwestern part of the province Groningen . when he was still small he moved to Amsterdam . On 11 January 1632 he married with Jannetje Tjears . He was a widower of Claegen Hendrix. In October 1649 Able died in Batavia (now a days called Jakarta ). In his will stood his wife, the children of his doughter and the poor of his birth place Lutjegast.
The exploring trip Abel Tasman was a explorer and sailor. He worked for the United EastIndian Company (VOC).he is known because of the exploring trip in 1642/1643.the exploring trip had as main purpose to to find a through pass to South America. On the island Mauritius they made a stop. When they left Mauritius the weather got worse and finally they sailed more to the North than planed. on 24th November 1642 they saw land and called it van Diemensland and later it was called Tasmania . On the 5th December they sailed further and on 14th of December they saw land again. They called it Stateneiland now a days the southern island of New Zealand. On 8 January they saw the pass through they had reached there goal. They could sail back to Batavia. Passing the Tonga Archiple , the Fiji islands, the Salomon's islands, the North coast of New Guinea and the Molukken they arrived on the 14th of June after 10 months back in Batavia.
Following trips On the begin of February 1644 Able Tasman and Frans visscher were sent on a mission again . They had to comeback with good news .this was actually the working-out of the last trip in 1642/1643 . They had to look for the opening between New Guinea and Australia, and a other little things like : looking for chests with silver and explore more of the land looking for more treasure. In 1648 Abel went for the Philippines and Thailand. After this trip he was fired because he had he had hung up one of his sailors.
Abel Tasman was important In that time it was important to have much and good trade. It was also important to discover other countries. It gave your country power and recognition.
