CAPTAIN JAMES COOK EARLY LIFE JAMES COOK WAS BORN 7 NOVEMBER 1728 IN MARTON YORKSHIRE. HIS PARENTS WERE GRACE PACE AND JAMES COOK A FARM WORKER ORIGINALLY FROM SCOTLAND HE LATER LIVED IN GREAT AYTON WHERE HE WENT TO SCHOOL. HE BECAME A SAILOR AS A TEENAGER IN WHITBY AND WORKED ON SHIPS CARRYING COAL ALONG THE ENGLISH COAST.

CAPTAIN JAMES COOK NAVY CAREER HE JOINED THE ROYAL NAVY IN 1755 AND TOOK PART IN THE SEVEN YEARS WAR AGAINST FRANCE. HE MARRIED ELIZABETH BATTS IN 1762 AND HER FATHER WAS SAMUEL BATTS.

THEY HAD 6 CHILDREN JAMES, NATHANIEL, ELIZABETH, JOSEPH, HUGH AND GEORGE. JAMES COOK BECAME A NAVY CAPTAIN IN 1766 AS COMMANDER OF HMS BARK ENDEAVOUR AND SET OUT ON THE FIRST OF THREE VOYAGES OF EXPLORATION. CAPTAIN COOK MUSEUM IN WHITBY


CAPTAIN JAMES COOK VOYAGES AND DEATH HE COMMANDED THREE VOYAGES OF EXPLORATION AROUND THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND EXPLORED AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND HAWAII. ON HIS LAST VOYAGE AS COMMANDER OF THE SHIP HMS RESOLUTION HE WAS KILLED IN A FIGHT WITH NATIVES ON HAWAII ON 14 FEBRUARY 1779 AGE 50.
