The first time Columbus went to the sea he was a teenager, he participated in several trading voyages in the Mediterranean and Aegean seas.
His first voyage into the Atlantic Ocean in 1476 he nearly died as the ship he was sailing was attacked b French privateers. His ship was burned and Columbus had to swim to the Portuguese shore and make his way to Lisbon, Portugal, where he later on settled and married Felipa Peresrello.

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492 to go to India to trade for spices. On August 3 1492, Columbus departed from Palos de la Frontera with 3 ships, one large carrack (beamy sailing ship) named Santa Maria and 2 smaller ships named Pinta and Nina. Columbus sailed to the Canary Island first, which were owned by Castile, where he made repairs and restocked the provision.
His death On May 20, 1506 Christopher Columbus died in Valladolid, Spain. After Queen Isabella died on November 26, 1504, Columbus tried to regain his governorship of Hispaniola. In 1505, the king allowed him to petition but did nothing. One year later, Columbus became ill and died on May 20, 1506. Christopher Columbus died at the age of 55.
James Cook Born: November 7, 1728 Marton, Yorkshire He is a British explorer and navigator. James spent early years on the farm where his father works. Later on he came into contact with ships when he worked in a general store in a coastal village. In 1746, at the age of 18, he was trained by a well-known ship owner, John Walker of Whitby. James gained valuable experience in sea life while working on Walker’s ships. When the ships were being repaired he studied maths at night.
Voyages of James Cook ďƒ˛ In 1768 the Royal Society of London, asked Cook to lead the first scientific expedition to the Pacific Ocean. In the command of the ship Endeavour, Cook took members of the Royal Society to the island of Tahitin the South Pacific, where they observed the passage of the planet Venus across the sun. Cook sailed south and south-west. He charted and reached all of New Zealand. Then he crossed the Tasman Sea westwards and, on 19 April 1770, reached the south-eastern coast of Australia. Cook claimed the area and thought it resembled the southern coast of Wales, so he named it new South Wales. Cook returned to England in 1771. In recognition of Cook’s achievements, King George III promoted him to the rank of commander.
His death ďƒ˛ Died: February 14, 1779 Kealakekua Bay ďƒ˛ On his third voyage in 1776, he aimed to discover the western opening of a possible northwest passage through Canada. But they got into a fight with some native people over a theft. But Cook died on the beach at Kealakekua Bay on 14 February 1779.
