What is Tsunami and Why does it happen? Tsunamis are giant waves that are caused like this. 1. A giant earthquake strikes. (An earthquake is actually an und erwater volcano exploding or a landslide.) 2. The movement of the ocean floor pushes the water so hard it makes a giant wave called a tsunami. 3. The tsunami is so big it can kill 350,000 people.


How big was the Tohoku (Japan) Tsuna mi The tsunami had the height of 40.5m caused by the earth quake magnitude 9.03. It was Japan’s biggest earthquake and 4th biggest in the world. 15,883 people were killed and 2,861 people had gone missing. Plus 383,429 buildings collapsed.

91 countries and 9 international organizations offered to help. UK sent 63 rescue specialists, USA sent 150 rescue people and dogs, and China sent 900 tents and 2000 blankets.
