Volcanoes All about volcano’s

What is a Volcano? A volcano is a mountain that has lava inside and erupts to land .

Why does Volcanoes erupt?

There is a layer called the mantle underneath the Earth's crust. The mantle is made of up plates that are always moving and shifting. When the plates separate, it creates heat and causes the mantle to melt into magma. The magma comes up through the crack between the plates. The magma pushes upward, melting more rock. The hot magma collects under the surface of the Earth. If the pressure is high enough or a crack opens in the crust, the magma spews out.

How many Volcano’s erupt in a year? There are about 60 volcano eruptions every year. Most of them are very weak. Huge eruptions do not happen very often.

What is the most active and the biggest Volcano in the world? The most active and the biggest volcano is the Mauna Loa volcano. The Mauna Loa volcano is one of five volcanoes in the island of Hawaii.

Story of Pompeii Pompeii was a resort town in the Roman Empire, located South of Naples in Italy. On 24th of August, 79 A.D. the city was buried by the eruption of nearby Mt. Vesuvius. Around 2000 people chose to stay in the city and most died from a blast of poisonous gasses. Excavation was started in the 1800’s. We have been able to gather much information from Pompeii not available elsewhere, much of it detailing the residents personal lives.
