Caused by an earthquake in the Pacific ocean.

The 2011 Japan tsunami is the 5th biggest in World history.


Causes -

The Japan tsunami caused by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake.

The earthquake lasted for 6 minutes.

-

The epicenter was about 70km east of Oshika Peninsula coast.

-

The epicenter was 30km deep.


The tsunami -

The tsunami was 40.7m tall (133ft).

-

It hit mainly in Miyako, Iwate and Tohoku.

-

It was so strong that it reached the entire continent of America from Alaska to Chile with a 2m tsunami.
