Introduction to device (Model Sea Spy mk1: Sea Spy, Isle Of Wight)
The educational ROV developed for the educational sector. By students for students, providing a cheap alternative to commercial devices. This ROV System has been specifically configured for marine scientists to quickly and effectively perform a variety of basic underwater surveys. The easily deployable ROV can help benthic operations by seeing what's happening beneath the surface without divers.

Thank you for your purchase of our product. In order to operate your ROV easily and safely, we kindly recommend that you carefully read the whole user manual and keep it as a reference source for ROV maintenance and adjustment in the future. 1. The ROV has 3 propeller systems to allow for movement within the water collumn 2. The ROV uses a 12 volt power supply to the control box as well as a 9 volt power supply for the camera.
Safety precautions •
Please read through the manual before using
•
Don’t immerse the control box in water
•
Plug the control box, camera power, laptop charger to secure dry sockets
•
Never try to repair circuitry, there are no user serviceable parts inside the ROV or the control box
•
Keep the ROV and control box away from fire or heat
•
Don’t fly close near to moving boats or engines
•
Keep hands, hair, loose clothing away from the propellers when the power is switched on
•
Don’t drop the ROV this can cause damage to the internal electronic systems or cause motor props to become misaligned
•
Don’t tamper with any of the seals on the ROV this will cause leaks and damage to the electronics
•
Turn off control circuit and camera off when not in use

5. Preparing for operation
Power up the ROV by plugging it in, both the circuit power and the camera power Turn the circuit on. Using the toggle switch Plug camera in to laptop via the easy cap connector Ensure the camera feed is operational Test ROV propelling systems (forward, back, left, right, up, down) Ensure the access caps are securely fastened (ensure the main service access has bung in place) Attach and securely fasten tether line to the eyelets on ROV. Double check line and knots Prepare to lower ROV ensuring that both the umbilical cord and tether line remain separated (ROV should not have any tension on umbilical) Start recording on laptop Lower to desired depth Begin the survey Once survey is finished start to bring the ROV up using the tether line (pull up umbilical separately ensuring no tension) Stop recording Turn off circuits (including camera) Wash off the ROV with freshwater (including umbilical and tether line) Store the ROV away carefully back in box. Place lid back on control box to ensure watertight seal.
6. Adjusting buoyancy To adjust the buoyancy of the ROV, the lead weight sheet bolted to the bottom of the device must be unbolted and trimmed or added to in order to get the desired buoyancy that the environment requires
7. Trouble shooting Symptom
Cause
Propellers wont move, when switched
• •
Camera is grainy or unresponsive
• •
Power is ON but no commands are working
• •
