Sensitization Apparatus

Riding the ‘Loop’ in Chicago one is encountered with pulsating sounds, light fluctuations and momentary jolts of velocity and rest, giving new commuters the experience of a tachophobia episode, the fear of speed. This apparatus captures and exerts the essence of riding the ‘Loop’, sensitizing the victim. [Partner: Alex Forsythe] [2012][Machine Studio]

Reconfinguring Architecture

Known for designing the built environment architects often are dealing with questions surrounding shelter and protection from the natural surroundings. What if architects would still be faced with similar problems yet they could no longer manifest their ideals as a “built environment. With this question and a 1960’s space race mindset came the inception of Metaprene, a prototype human body climate enhancer. The external body extension contorts itself in order to provide comfort to the host body, the controlling variable being the temperature of the host and its surroundings. [2014][In-Form Studio]

South Hau-sten Renascence

Can the resurgence of art, particularly street art provoke a reverse Gentrification?’ Due to the current trendiness of current Soho, it has started to lose its connection with its rich art history, in many cases galleries and artist dwellings making way for high fashion and realty. We can see street art in the area screaming its concern, screaming for a place to be, but often these are located in the alley ways and side streets where to many it seems invisible. With stores like Givenchy and Fendi with the occasional Prada in the heart of the neighborhood, Soho advertises itself towards the streets. How can architecture influence street art to do the same, while giving these artists a place for being.

Over Looking

In the city of Chicago one often finds the forgotten within the shadows of alleyways. In general society only remembers the forgotten when it is no longer there. “Over-Looking” is a critique to society as we view the homeless community. Utilizing elements of shadows and alleys and “beauty” the critique takes the form of a mausoleum, storing the ashes of the forgotten. Thus becoming a symbol for what the homeless stand for in the city Chicago. [2012][Chicago Studio]

The monument takes shape of a shelter looked at from above. As if the viewer was looking down upon that which is has neglected.

In the Trees

Nestled within the canopy the restaurant project captures the views of Ledges state Park in Boone Iowa, as well gives the dinners an ultimate dining experience. The restaurant contains a set of reflectors which give the dinners the option to view the landscape without having to move from their seats. [2012][Rural Retreat]

Unconventional Delicacy

Through the study of the rum distillation process in the island of Puerto Rico we came across the realization that much of our vernacular meals come from the use of bi-product to create an edited refined product. With this concept in mind we decided to study how the restaurant industry in the island produced waste and how could these bi-product be benefited from. With the help of creative thought process a set of recipes as a way to address our thesis, leading towards new methodologies for how these recipes were to be presented and consumed.
