Café restaurants.
It’s hard to beat sitting in a café and watching the city buzzing around you. Norwich is blessed with an impressive selection of independent cafés, tearooms and places to enjoy a light lunch. Cafés with culture If you’re looking for a café with a big helping of culture, head to Norwich Cathedral Refectory where you catch a glimpse of the stunning Norman spire with your snack. If you’re not sure what to order, we have it on good authority that the sausage rolls are second to none! A chocoholics paradise Chocoholics will find a slice of heaven in Caley’s Cocoa Café which is inside Norwich Guildhall. The café is the place to indulge in chocolate, in all its wonderful forms. Visit on the first Monday of each month to catch an archive film while you’re there.

Historic cafés One of the most historic cafés in the city is the thatched Britons Arms Coffee House and Restaurant. You’ll find it along Elm Hill, one of the most picturesque areas of the city. A year-round attraction, the Britons Arms benefits from both a cosy log fire and a summer garden.
A Norwich experience For another ‘only-in-Norwich’ experience, you’ll want to head to Jarrold Department store on London Street. Stop for a bite to eat while you’re shopping, you’ll be spoilt for choice with three popular restaurants and a well-stocked deli offering a wide range of local produce.

Fish and chips.
You don’t have to go to the coast to eat fantastic fish and chips, the city is serving up delicious portions, all with a twist. Fish and chips with a twist This British classic doesn’t have to be eaten on the run; if you like to sit down and savour your meal then visit Grosvenor Fish Bar in Norwich Lanes. As well as a top take-away service, this restaurant is hiding an atmospheric undercroft that has rave reviews. Head downstairs and take a seat while you enjoy a creative menu which includes specials such as ‘Bass with sass’, ‘Shark Bites’, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll salmon wrap’ and ‘5 Quid Squid’. A traditional experience The newest chippy on the block is Orford Plaice where you will be treated to traditional fish and chips with an emphasis on quality produce and service. Much of the fish is sourced from the Barent Sea where there is a stable and sustainable cod and haddock stock, which will ensure a healthy level of fish for years to come. Orford Plaice is also able to cater for dietary requirements with a dedicated gluten free menu.

Country pubs.
When you’re out and about exploring the countryside, it’s always nice to stop for a relaxed lunch or to round the day off with a long and indulgent dinner. In the heart of Somerleyton, discover the taste of elegance with a bite to eat at the Fritton Arms. Executive chef Simon Pegg creates a changing menu covering dishes that will make you want to stay all day! Share a bar board with friends and enjoy anti pasti with a glass of wine or settle into the restaurant for pan-fried seabass, Gressingham duck or a homemade pizza from the wood-fired oven. The Walpole Arms in Itteringham, North Norfolk, is well worth a visit for a fusion of historic charm and modern flavours. The dinner menu offers a taste sensation of locally produced, seasonal ingredients. How about Brancaster mussels followed by roast pheasant breast? Or, a juicy Walpole 8oz rump steak burger topped with Norfolk Dapple cheese? If you’re heading to the Broads National Park, make sure you stop off at The Waveney Inn, situated on the edge of the Norfolk/Suffolk marshes at Burgh St. Peter. The pub offers picture-postcard views over the Waveney River Centre Marina so you can dine with a view all year round. Perfect for family meals, the Waveney Inn serves plates in three sizes – small, regular and large.
