With a massive amount of big and beautiful pike under his belt, Christian has put his finger prints on our new MP Pro range of rods and plays an important role in Savage Gear product development. Henrik S. Lund, DK Henrik S. Lund, Dane – living in Jylland in the middle of pike country. Henrik has the special big fish touch, and a very methodical and conservative approach to his fishing. Anthony Glascoe Anthony, a columnist in North West Angler magazine has been pike fishing for over 20 years and holds PB pike to 30lb 8oz, Zander to 8lb, and Perch to over 3lb - Anthony is also a keen sea angler and has had Conger to 36lb from the shore, Bass to 10lb and an amazing Ballan Wrasse at 6lb 8oz! The 16cm Deviator is a great glider with a seducing side to side motion on retrieve and a great “hang” in the water. The shape and size of this lure matches many prey fish and will be deadly throughout the year. Fishes from 50cm – 2m. Light trace recommend. “The herrings works best at the correct speed. The 11cm spoon works at a bit lower speed window, than the 13cm spoon, Both sizes work superb at 2 kts – but the window for both sizes is quite big. A good tip on trolling, is to Zigzag once in while, in stead of just keeping a steady course. This will make the Spoons roll and drop in the water, often trickering attack from the fish. In winter and early spring, choose Fluorescent and UV reflecting colours, like 05, 18, 26, 27 and 35. For Spring and early summer choose more Natural colours like 02, 03, 34 and 00 – for trolling at bigger depths – say over 40 feet, Luminous and UV reflecting colours are deadly. Colour 28 is deadly year round at any depth – but truly outstanding on deep water. In spring and summer, the herring spoons perfom very good in combination with Dipsy divers. In winter the spoons perform great behind Kusomo divers and on the downriggers. If you change the size of the treble hook to a bigger size or heavier type, the spoon can handle more speed – and the reverse – smaller / lighter treble less speed for optimum action. After use always rinse and dry the spoons carefully, to keep your hooks and spiltrings in perfect condition”.

Vertical Fishing:

Vertical fishing, is a highly effective way of fishing directly on the schools of predators, schooled up close to snags, plateau’s and drop offs on deeper water typically from 5-15m of water. Especially fishing for Zander and Perch in deep water, with thin braids 0,06mm – 0,10mm and 10-25g jigg head’s mounted with Loose body softlures like our Cannibal shads (26), Dying minnow’s (27) – Transformer (28) and Recoil shads (29) – can be very, very effective. Fish close to the bottom and drift slowly over the area where you see the fish on the echo sounder. Lift and drop the lures, so they hit bottom once in while.

The illustrated depth cart is an approximate guide line of optimum working depth for the shown lures. Casting and spinning: Retrieve speed, diameter of main line and how high you hold your rod tip, will affect how deep your lure will fish. Most lures will run a bit deeper on steady retrieve than on twitching. Trolling: Lip lures and Crank baits will work deeper with thin mainline and trace than with thicker mainline and trace. Each lure have an optimum trolling speed where your rod tip have a lively “knocking” action. Change trolling speed up and down once in a while, this way the lure will perform an erratic action that often trick follow fish to strike. Jerk baits: Can be adjusted to work higher in the water if you replace the mounted heavy spiltrings with 8mm Butch spiltring’s – this way you can give your lure great hang and long spin stops. If you double up the butch split rings, your lure will have a bit more glide and the hooking rate will increase – a good tip in cold water and with many follow fish.
