3 Reasons the BC PNP Concept & OINP Concept Matter
Although the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) and Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) are distinct programs, they share similarities. Each province runs their own programs but, both the BC PNP and the OINP follow the same basic process. The first step for both is to register and submit what is called an expression of interest. Among the components of the expression of interest is a BC PNP Concept or OINP Concept. If you qualify based on this expression of interest, which includes your business concept, you are then entered into a pool of qualified candidates for the designated provincial nominee program. From there, the top applicants for the province are invited to apply. The concept portion of any PNP is an imperative part of the first steps to a successful immigration case and there are many reasons for that. 1. Weight – Both the BC PNP concept and OINP concept make up large portions of the possible points to receive an invitation to apply. In the case of the BC PNP concept, you can earn a
maximum of 80 of 200 points. The OINP concept is just slightly less at a maximum of 74 out of 200 points. The expression of interest must be successful for you to continue along the immigration path. As both concepts make up just less than half of the total points for their respective province, it is obvious why this section matters so much. 2. Benefit to the Economy – The emphasis of all entrepreneurship and business immigration streams is to bring significant benefit the economy. In order to successfully be invited to submit a full application, it needs to be evident that your proposed business endeavor as detailed in the concept will benefit the overall Canadian economy and create jobs for citizens. Job creation is weighted differently in the OINP concept and BC PNP concept but, overall, the concept itself isn’t just about job creation but proving that you, as the applicant, have the skills and experience necessary to make the business endeavor successful overall and for the long haul. 3. Provinces’ Interests - Beyond demonstrating that you will provide economic benefit to Canada, it also needs to be evident that you will create benefit in a way that aligns with the priorities of the specific province. Every province has certain industries they want to develop and regions or cities within their province which will yield better overall scores. You may approach your business concept in different ways. Some may choose their business type based on where they want to live. Others may base where they live off of the type of business they want to start. In either sense, the BC PNP or OINP concepts are your chance to prove your business aligns. When you understand the reasons OINP or BC PNP concept are such vital components of the application process, it allows you to tailor your business plan and immigration case accordingly. This gives you a better chance of being officially invited to apply and having an ultimately successful immigration case.
