A commitment has been made to provide local news programs three times daily: a 6:30 a.m. morning news program; a 5:30 p.m. late-afternoon news program, and an 11 p.m. late-evening news program. As the station’s news director, you are being asked by management to develop a statement of “Ethical Considerations and Code of Conduct” for the news reporters, editors and announcers employed by the station. You may draw on the codes of conduct found in the Appendices on pages 282, 285, 287, and 289 of the Jacquette textbook, and other information you have discovered from the textbook or from other reading and research. In your paper you will: a. List three or more broad categories (principles) of ethics and professional conduct that will be expected of your station’s journalists. b. Explain each principle in your essay. c. Discuss why each principle is important to your television station. d. Provide practical examples of how each principle can be implemented. e. Include five to eight professional and/or scholarly resources in completing your assignment, using APA style to cite and reference the sources.
