Tensile

Rope has a unique quality as a material which allows it to cope extremely well under tension, providing a whole range of opportunities to create and divide spaces such as this one.

Reinforced

Although rope can struggle in compression, it has the capability to incase smaller structures, such as rebar. Reinforcing the rope allows it to become free standing and opens up awwhole range of new functions.

Solids

Another approach to creating a structure that is like no other is to lay rope into a solid format, creating stability to alternate between latitude space. Technique 006_A

Voids

With solids comes the opportunity for voids aswell, being able to control how rope burns is a skill that is learnt through practice. By burning solid rope structures a new organic form can be created, giving it a unique atmosphere like no other

Transitioning

Draping rope provides the opportunity to transtion from flooring to ceiling with one strand of rope. This maximises space and minimises building materials but it also provides an atmosphere like no other. Technique 015_A
