Fortunately, there is a vibrant aftermarket industry in Canada offering just about every conceivable accessory anyone could possibly want for revamping trucks.  Research indicates that there are over 3,300 auto parts businesses in Canada, employing nearly 30 thousand employees involved in direct retail sales and fitment. For those who prefer to do their shopping from home, Internet parts and accessories sales are booming, with indications that growth in 2014 will be between 10 and 15 percent.  The market has several segments. One of them covers bed accessories such as covers, boxes, and liners. Then there are bolt-on cosmetic fixtures such as light bars, side steps, and bumpers. For the adventurous,

there are winches, suspension lift kits, and power upgrades, and last but not least, service items such as engine parts, brakes, and exhausts. The average age of trucks is increasing as owners hang on to them for longer, creating opportunities for power and suspension upgrades as owners rejuvenate older vehicles. Newer vehicles feature higher levels of technological innovation, especially with regard to engine control. Here, there are opportunities for increasing power output through the use of add-on products such as power-boost chips and the fitment of engine monitoring devices that read information from the engine ECU. Sales of large-capacity V8-powered vehicles are growing again; in the US, 2013 registrations of V8-powered trucks increased by 10 percent, while US sales of light trucks grew by 12 percent. Of more immediate relevance is the performance of the aftermarket accessories and parts market. Between 2011 and 2012, sales were pretty static at just under $7 billion but grew in
