Tea for Two: a baby shower O
n April 11th of this year, I got to hostess a baby shower for a close family friend. She baby sat me when I was growing up, and I have always looked up to her, so it was very exciting to get to be a part of her shower! We made it a tea party theme, and went all out on the food, decorations, and everything else that the party entailed. I went the night before to help set everything up and I was amazed at how well it all turned out! I wanted to keep all of the decorations for myself when it was all over, and I actually did make it out with a couple of the baby succulents that we had sitting out on the tables. For food, we had baby BLT sandwiches, baby chicken salad sandwiches, fruit and vegetables, pimento cheese, and of course, lots

and lots of petit fours and other desserts that were fitting of the occasion. One of my favorite parts of the entire shower was that we used the vintage plates, teacups, and teapots as decorations throughout the party as well as to eat off of when the guests had lunch. The plates, like the ones pictured on the next page, were special because they were all collected from flea markets and antique stores around the area by Claire, the mommy-to-be, and her mom, to be used for Claire’s wedding reception. I think they were happy to have any excuse to reuse the plates because everyone loved them so

much at the wedding. I generously offered to take them off of their hands if they ever wanted to get rid of them. The other decorations, like this floral monogram pictured, as well as the fabric scrap bunting and others, were all DIY projects that we made to give the shower a more personal touch. We planted the baby succulents in the teacups as well to keep the theme of the flowers/greenery and tea party flowing throughout the house. Everyone gave compliments on how the house was decorated, and I have to say that I was very happy with how it

turned out. On the day of the shower, we all showed up in our Sunday best, ready to greet all of the guests that arrived. It ended up being a great turnout, with all of Claire’s closest friends and family in attendance. Everyone got to catch up with old friends, make new ones, eat lots of yummy food, and watch Claire open tons and tons of adorable presents with monograms, ruffles, and bows galore! Baby Cora Rae already had more clothes by the end of this shower than I do in my entire closet, and she hadn’t even been more yet. I had an absolutely great time being able to host the shower for Claire, and I can’t wait to meet little Cora Rae Hathaway, who is now one week old!
