ABOUT ME Landscape Architecture has taught me that encompassing feelings can be shown in many different forms. A space can hold a story that can be interpreted in an infinite amount of ways. I have also learned that vegetation can be an extremely significant element to an experience, and I love working with various plant palettes. Outside of designing, I enjoy crafting, spending time with family and friends, and learning new skills. I am continually attempting new cooking/baking recipes and trying my hand at new hobbies. I am looking to increase my knowledge of design in the landscape. I believe my commitment to succeed, fast learning abilities, and willingness to take on any new challenge will make me the perfect fit as an employee.

North Harbor Center

Upper Harbor Terminal, Minneapolis, Minnesota Photoshop | Illustrator | Indesign | Hand-Drawing | AutoCAD

What was once the Upper Harbor Terminal located in Minneapolis, Minnesota is now North Harbor Center. North Harbor Center connects the near neighborhoods to the Mississippi river. The driving influence to the design of this site was the Rondo neighborhood which was once a lively African-American community that was sadly demolished by the construction of I-94. North Harbor Center creates a destination that celebrates communities and people who have and still are being misrepresented. By providing spaces for cultural art, an Equal Rights Heritage Center, spaces for a farmers market, and homeless living shelters, there is space for any type of person to expand aand showcase their talents and lifestyle.

SOUTHRIDGE GREEN MALL

Des Moines, Iowa Hand Drawing | Adobe Illustrator | Adobe InDesign | AutoCAD

As time goes on, malls across the country seem to become neglected. At the heart of the south side of Des Moines, Southridge Green offers many amenities, including diverse dining experiences, educational sites, retail, and green space. Together, we created a destination to appreciate and accept diverse cultures through food and innovative learning experiences. As a team, we worked on the hand renderings and design. Abigail hand rendered the sections and I did the plans and perspective shown. Individually, I created the construction documents in AutoCAD. PARK(ing) DAY PARKLET Design Build Sketchup | Hand-Drawing | Build

As a studio class, we took part in the 2019 ASLA PARK(ing) Day. Our studio was split into five groups to each build a parklet to be built in Des Moines, Iowa on September 20, 2019. Our team created The Grove, a parklet to bring nature into the urban setting. By using natural wood tones, plants native to Iowa, and hanging twine, we aspired to give the user a sense of walking through a grove of trees. Creating a path that was not perfectly straight and varied in width also helped give the user an idea of walking on an uneven trail in a forest. As a team, we all pitched in to build the parklet. In the process, I created the sketchup model. Sketchup Model - Jordyn Kloss Sketches and Build - Olivia Fletcher, Riley Fountain, Josh Pollastrini & Jordyn Kloss

Landscape Graphics Hand Rendering Hand-Drawing | Photoshop | AutoCAD

Practicing the basics of graphics, these studies showcase the process of learning the importance of line hierarchy in a drawing, practicing colored pencil and colored marker rendering, and utilizing hand drawn skills to create visually compelling textures and depth to a site drawing. After processing the hand drawn aspect of this site, further study was done to familiarize with AutoCAD.

Landscape Plan & Elevation Hand Rendering Hand-Drawing | Photoshop

Utilizing practiced landscape graphic styles, creating a larger plan drawing with colored markers to learn how to minimize color usage and create balance in a drawing. Landscape elevations utilized to learn line hierarchy and understanding of reading a landscape and creating space.

YSS Recovery Campus

Cambridge, Iowa Photoshop | Illustrator | Indesign | Hand-Drawing | AutoCAD | ArcGIS

Located near Cambridge, Iowa, the new YSS campus moves clients going through the YSS program from outdated and outgrown historic homes in downtown Ames, Iowa to a nature-based campus with more opportunities for development and ownership. The clients experience a sudden change of events in the program, which can represent a promise towards growth for not only their time with YSS, but also through the rest of their lives. This design of the new YSS site takes the sudden change of daily events into great consideration. The design gives the clients opportunities to regain their sense of ownership in a positive environment, and find comfort in the sudden unknown. A feeling of ownership is crucial to functioning as an individual. Choices facilitate feelings of ownership, therefore we have identified six strategies in which the site can provide positive and healthy choices for clients to familiarize themselves with the opportunities of ownership. These strategies include hobbies, connections, nature, recreation, home, and destination. Each of these strategies were informed by our participation with the clients combined with research based evidence.
