INVOCATION
As we get ready to commit a precious year of our lives to Rotary, let us clearly understand that each one of us has a part to play, to perform, to deliver. We cannot simply say that we shall try our best. We need to commit ourselves absolutely, fully, and say what I must do shall indeed be done.
Almighty God, we invoke your blessing upon this gathering and upon our being together. We thank you Lord for having called us to this community to live our lives and do our work for Rotary. Help us to become the Rotarian you wish us to be. Devoted to truth, sincere in fellowship, given to service, and confident in steadfast faith. Preserve us faithful to these ideals. Let us stand firm when the fight is hard. Give us strength sufficient for this day. Make us as big as our problems and to stay bigger than our responsibilities. Lord, help us to live up to our capabilities. Bless all the former members of our Rotary Club who have moved on, passed on or opted out. We pray that each one caught something from the spirit of our service. Bloomed a little fuller and shined a little brighter because of the service experience. We ask you to bless all the present members of our club that each will show a little more, give a little more, and be a little more because of the service experience. We pray for the Rotary spirit so we all be best qualified to minister to the community’s highest welfare. The spirit that makes for better friendships, understandings, goodwill and cooperation. The spirit that permeates life, making it more harmonious and beneficial to all. Father, grant us the wisdom and the foresight to discern what is for our own betterment and the betterment of all mankind. Strengthen us in being a part of your power and influence. Prosper us in our calling, help us in our needs, guide us in our crusade in pursuing peace. May peace and goodwill abide among us this day and always. In Jesus Name…… Amen
Let’s look at the things that we can do better, things that we should be changing, and things that we haven’t started working on yet. We must have the wisdom and courage to see these and identify them and engage ourselves in them. We are in Rotary to change the world, for why else would we be Rotarians? We believe our future will be better than the past. Two areas where we shall need to constantly revisit our goals are first, finding more Rotarians to do the work of Rotary. We must focus on getting newer, younger, currentgeneration, YouTube- and Face book-savvy Rotarians. And the other area we must look at is telling well the story of Rotary to the world. Since development leads to prosperity and prosperity leads to peace, let’s continue to build communities. It may be by doing something huge, like building a dam or a bridge over rivers. Or it may be something small, like putting desks or fans or blackboards in classrooms in a school. As you go ahead, you will find that what really matters is just your willingness to meet the need, and not the size of the project. The difficult jobs can be done right now. The impossible may take just a bit longer. Along with the big things, let’s not ever forget the small gestures that change lives. A pat on the back, a word of cheer, sometimes just a smile is all it takes. And you will then see that almost everyone will smile back. Laugh and the world laughs with you. Let’s make our year, in addition to all that we do, a year of laughter and joy and happiness, with at least three smiles each per Rotarian and spouse every day. That’s eight million smiles daily! In this life, you will find we may not always be able to do great things. But we can always do small things, with great love Each one of you will succeed because the resolve and strength to do this — to do anything — comes from within yourselves. In order to achieve anything in this world, a person has to use all the resources he can draw on. The only place to start is with ourselves and within ourselves. And the questions we need to ask ourselves are: Why am I here? Why are you here? It is because we all seek a sense of fulfilment in life, and the responsibilities we are about to take up are a part of that fulfilment. To achieve the fulfilment, we have to find harmony between our inner self and the outer self; the inner dimensions are our desires, our will, our spirit, and our outer dimension is the action we take and the image we create. That is why I am asking you to reach within and unleash your inner power and then use it to embrace everything and everyone around you. “First reach within yourself, and then move on confidently, firmly, toward the targets you have set for yourselves. Discover yourself, develop the strengths within you, and then unhesitatingly, unflinchingly, go forth and encircle the world, to embrace humanity. And that, my brothers and sisters in Rotary, is going to be our theme for our year: Reach Within to Embrace Humanity.” Sincerely,
Kalyan Banerjee Rotary International President, RY 2011 – 2012

Republic of the Philippines HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Quezon City, Metro Manila
I wish to congratulate the newly inducted officers and members of the Rotary Club of Lubang Island RI District 3810. I welcome you in the family of the distinguished group of Rotarians. This is a new beginning for all of you as new elected officers and members of the Rotary Club of Lubang Island District 3810. A greater challenge awaits each one of us in our capacity as private individuals or as public servants. Together, we dedicate ourselves to one specific goal to help our society in rebuilding our economy. The love and spirit of dedication of people giving generously of themselves for the less fortunate is the true essence of service. Without the spirit of love and camaraderie, our country can neither be good nor great. WE have to give emphasis to our concern in the family education, and community as well as for the homeless in our society. Our common principle of “Service Above Self” shall always be our internal motivation in concurrence with our commitment to help using the “Four Way Test” of the Rotary Club as our guide in upholding community service all with the help of God. So I urge all of you – whether as businessmen or ordinary men on the streets, to put the principle of service into action. Let us commit ourselves to become an even more responsible member of society by working hand in hand in achieving the strengthening of our communities- economically, intellectually, and socially. So let us all stand proud and optimistic, full of hope and enthusiasm that together we can rebuild our economy for the sake of our children and for our future.

MESSAGE Republic of the Philippines MUNICIPALITY OF LUBANG PROVINCE OF OCCIDENTAL MINDORO Office of the Municipal Mayor
It is my pleasure and honour to convey my warmest felicitations to all officers and members of Rotary Club of Lubang Island, RI District 3810 on its Induction and Turnover Ceremonies. For a decade of its existence, Rotary Club of Lubang Island is without a doubt, continuing to foster to the community its advocacy of promoting goodwill and humane service. It has through the years, contributed and continues to contribute in alleviating the difficult conditions of the poor and needy Lubangenos as they shape their brighter future. Potable water to waterless poor communities is one of the priorities of the Municipality. With this great and utmost endeavour of RCLI, through partnership with Rotary Club of Bringhton Beach and Melbourne of Australia, the poor people of Cabra had been provided with potable water with less effort and time of acquiring it. They were uplifted and guided through the path to productive and purposeful life. We hope that in the next coming years, RCLI will continue to support our advocacy of providing potable water to remote and isolated communities. Sitio Pulili of Barangay Tangal is the next target of the program. We are very sure of the enormous help from RCLI in its pursuit. The Rotary Club of Lubang Island Officers and members are themselves institution in their endeavour and as role models, they are worthy of emulation. Once more, my sincerest congratulations to Rotary Club of Lubang Island, RI District 3810!

MESSAGE BRIEF HISTORY OF ROTARY
Rotary Club of Lubang Island RI District 3810
My election as President of this club can be considered by some as a “breakthrough” because I am the first female president elected after 10 years that Rotary Club of Lubang Island was chartered. I still clearly recall what Past District Governor Josie Ang mentioned during our induction two years ago. She said she is happy to see that the club is increasing its female members and that she hopes that our club will soon have a female president. I never realized it would happen and that it would be me. I call it DESTINY. Considering that I am barely two years as rotarian, I would say that I am still a rookie in the world of Rotary. I know that the job of a club president, is not going to be easy especially all of RCLI past presidents and officers have demonstrated excellent jobs in serving as leaders of this great club. Like everyone who is given the chance to serve, I am faced with the challenge to make a difference and to leave a lasting legacy. I am not afraid to accept this challenge because I know that I can count on your support. I salute and congratulate Global President Andy Aguilar for a job well done for RY 2010-2011. His dedication and commitment brought the club to another height of achievement. His leadership is truly exceptional and he will continue to be an inspiration to us all. To all the officers and members of District 3810 and Rotary Club of Lubang Island, I am looking forward to work with you this rotary year. I am committing my 100% to be of service to our club and our brethren who need our helping hands. Together, let us REACH WITHIN TO EMBRACE HUMANITY.
CmP Persie C. Torregoza
The First Rotary Club in the world was organized in Chigago, Illinois, U. S.A on Februrary 23, 1905, by Paul Harris, young lawyer, who gathered in a spirit of friendship and understanding, a group of men, each of whom was engaged in a different form of service to the public. The basis for membership – one person from each business and profession in the community – still exists in Rotary. At first, the members of the new club met in rotation at their various places of business, and they adopted the name “Rotary” which Paul Harris suggested. Since 1095, the ideals of Paul Harris and his friends have become ideals, which have been accepted by people of practically all nationalities, and of many political and religious beliefs. Today, there are Rotary Clubs in Austria and American Samoa, in Brazil and Brunei, in India and Italy, Scotland has been so great that there are now more than 29,300 Rotary Clubs, which have a membership of about 1,200,000. The general objectives of Rotary clubs in every country are the same – development of fellowship and understanding among the business and professional leaders in the community, the promotion of community – betterment endeavors and of high standards in business and professional practice, and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace. Rotary clubs everywhere have one ideal – the “Ideal of Service”, which is thoughtfulness of, and helpfulness to others.
OBJECT OF ROTARY Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprises; and in particular, to encourage and foster” FIRST The development of as acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions. The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation is an opportunity to serve society; THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life; FORTH The advance of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional person united in the ideal of services.
Governor’s 10-Point Challenge
HISTORY OF ROTARY CLUB OF LUBANG ISLAND The Rotary Club of Lubang Island is a brainchild of Mayor Juan M. Sanchez, a PMAER/retired soldier, Mayor of the Municipality of Lubang. In July 2008 after his inauguration as the new Mayor, he already look around for someone who could organize and get a Rotary Club operation because he felt that a socio-civic organization like the Rotary, Jaycee, etc. would be the most effective partner of the local government in the development of Lubang Island and the uplifting of the lives of the marginalized sector. Mayor Sanchez then tried to convince Manuel “Noli” T. Liboro, former provincial Board Member of Occidental Mindoro, who hails Looc Municipality and married to Betriz Orayani from Lubang to spearhead the organization. However, Noli felt reluctant at first until during the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. Senen Mendiola, when the idea of organizing the Rotary club of Lubang Island was rekindled. Willie Sato narrated his success in securing assistance for various projects in San Jose. Mamburao and the other Municipalities od Occidental Mindoro, which inspired Noli Liboro to accept the challenge. Noli Liboro later accepted the invitation of Willie Sato to attend the organization meeting in the United Nation Rotary Club sponsored by Rotary Club of Downtown Manila(RCDM). He was formally introduced t the officers of RCDM headed by Rotarian Arsenio Ong in the company of Past District Governors Sonny Ventura and Johnny Aruego and Past President Ben Pineda, who unanimously assured Noli Libor of their unconditional support for the organization of Lubang Island Rotary Club under Rotary International District 3810. Isnpired by the support of RCDM and challenged by the idea brought to him by Mayor Juan Sanchez, he started calling the kababayans. Initially, he was able to convince Aure Villagracia, Boy Zapanta and Ed Satur. After, several more appeals to his town mate from Lubang it still turned out not so encouranging. He then tried to all his relatives like, Ed Tarriela-Past President of Makati Guadalupe Rotary Club and concurrently Assistant District Governor of Rotary International District 3830 for assistance. The latter immediately pledged his full support and in fact convinced Roy Tarriela, one time Vice President of Paranaque’s Easy Rotary Club of RI 3830 and Judge Venancio Tarriela former Rotarian to help in the organization, He also started calling other kababayans from Looc and he offered his house as a venue of the Club’s first Christmas Party last Dec 2001 Despite of all the hardship and disappointments, commonly experienced in organizing clubs, Noli LIboro with the untiring support of PP Ben Pineda of RCDM and the wisdom extended by Aure Villagracia, Ding Quintos and Mayor Sanchez, their joint efforts finally paid-off. More and more members attended the weekly breakfast meeting at Club Figaro and everyone contributed their share no matter how small. In coming years, this Rotary Club is expected to usher progress and more chapters to its history. The glory belongs to not a single person but the collective will of many to bring progress to the island of Lubang.

WELCOME and DISCOVER … The Paradise Island of Lubang By:
PP Willie Masangkay
Lubang Island is part of Occidental Mindoro province It was established in 1750. The word “Lubang” means “lumbang,” a kind of plant growing in abundance in the island of Lubang during the early times. The island consists of two municipalities of Lubang and Looc – which means “malook or malalim na rukudo” - and three neighboring islets; namely, Cabra, Ambil and Golo. Cabra belongs to Lubang municipality, while Ambil and Golo belong to Looc municipality. Lubang municipality has 16 barangays (villages), whereas Looc has 9 barangays. It has a population of about 32,000 for Lubang municipality and 14,000 for Looc municipality. However, in terms of land area, Looc municipality is bigger than Lubang municipality, with about 13,230 ha and 11,396 ha. This elongated island (191 square km, 27 km long) is hilly (reaching about 1,800 feet above MSL), with beautiful beaches, coves, offshore coral, as well as vegetation and marine life. Moveover, Boracay and Palawan! Lubang Island is here to captivate the hearts of all those who want a taste of what it is to be in a paradise island. Just a few hours away from Manila, Lubang Island offers vast tourist attractions – from mountain climbing to scuba diving and swimming -- and its attraction lies in the fact that marine life along the seashore abound. Lubang has a long span of pristine white and brown sand beaches comparable to Boracay. Across the shorelines are rich coral reef, which shelter thousands of colorful fishes. The waters are very clear and even at 100 to 300 meters away from the seashore, one could clearly see the different habitats living under water. Fun activities include snorkeling in Ambil in Looc, and BALUGA PICNIC GROVE in Binacas, PROTACIO and DON JUAN BEACH in Tagbac and PALANAS-VIGO BEACH, KONO BALAGUIN BEACH; PAROLA/LIGHT HOUSE in Talaotao and the150-year old PAROLA/LIGHT HOUSE in Cabra (Lubang), known as an apparition of Mama Mary in late 1960s as well as the lobster area by the snorkelers. Another attraction for which the island is known for and is fast catching the interest of tourists is the ONODA TRAIL/CAVE which is not only an exciting place for trekking and camping exploration but a great find for history lovers since the Onoda trail/cave tells the amazing story of a Japanese straggler who did not know that World War II had ended. The straggler was Japanese Imperial Army, Lt. Hiroo Onoda who emerged after 30 years of hiding in the jungles of Lubang Island. He returned to Japan a hero.
Popular beaches and campsites/cottages stated below are among those listed by Tourism Council. These are located in the barangays of Tilik (port of arrival), Vigo, Tagbac, Tumibo, Binacas, Cabra, Looc, Agkawan, Balikyas, Ambil & Talaotao. Sorville located in the highland in Lubang municipaltiy is an exotic campsite for mountain-climbing and jungle living clubs as well as for retirement villages (attention foreigners & investors !)
