BALNEARIO LOS ALCÁZARES Client: Dirección Gral. del Mar Menor State: Under construction Role: Architect
The Mar Menor, located in the southeast of Spain, is a saltwater lagoon of the Mediterranean Sea with a high environmental importance as habitat for large number of protected species. Originally this was an area with very little sand on the beaches, which led to the creation of “balnearios” (traditional wooden structures) as a need to provide swimmers with comfortable access to the bathing area. However, the growth of tourism in recent decades led to the addition of sand and the dismantling of most of the “balnearios”. The Mar Menor is in the midst of a transformation to a more environmentally friendly tourism. The new “balneario” is instrumental in this evolution. It extends the adjacent promenade over the water by incorporating the practical needs and demands for accessibility, safety and programmatic flexibility avoiding the adittion of sand. This new “balneario” recovers the original function while adding new complexity to the traditional typology. 1st Prize - Public Competition

FUNERAL HOME Client: Private State: In progress Role: Collaborator
Historically we find different definitions of death that show us how this concept has moved from positions closer to darkness, pain and fear, to positions linked to the concept of sadness, change and light. We have understood this building as a place that will resist being forgotten, remaining in the retina of its users, and therefore a place where sensitive experience must be controlled. We can talk then of a binary building. On the one hand, its face in the city remains closed, it is protected from traffic, and forms a kind of protective shell for the experiences that occur in the interior. On the other hand, it opens onto the stream and into an interior courtyard, to provide calm and contact with nature, with the sky and vegetation. It is in this part where the interior-exterior permeability becomes very important, where roofs and pavements are disconnected from the closure to blur the boundaries between building and exterior, and thus generate spaces of recollection on both sides of the glass. ARTIFICIAL PARADISE A new era for nature
The project proposes to work on the oil platform of Casablanca, located in front of the coast of Tarragona, avoiding the opening of new wells that lead to a continuation in the pollution of the area and opting for the reconversion of the infrastructure in an example for the creation of natural habitats over abandoned industrial facilities. The proposed intervention suggests a dialogue between the original industrial architecture and the layer of nature that overlaps it, where the initial elements are reconfigured to give greater prominence to the flora and fauna to the detriment of humans and machines. It is built through the cleaning, transformation and reorganization of all original objects, construction elements and machinery. Seeking a low impact performance according to the project. It will be through this dismantling, transforming and relocating as it will be composing in different stages a new space at the service of the rich ecosystem of this area of the Spanish Mediterranean coast. VIADUC D’OTTERSWILLER The street is a theatre
The commissioning of the project is to build a mixed-use building (residential+cultural) on top of an old abandoned bridge located in the middle of the Otterswiller’s countryside. To enhance the character of the old bridge and giving the bridge back its identity as a passageway, the building is elevated with a repeated structure that go through it, creating an empty programmatic strip between it and the dwellings than can be converted in a cultural facility. The pop-up equipment consists of a theatre, a cinema, a conference room, two workshops, an exhibition hall, a stage and a bar, as well as bathrooms and a reception area. All of them are formed by movable and stackable walls and furniture and equipment that can be stored in the space between trusses by means of a pulley system. In this way, we achieve that the surface of the bridge is continuously changing and, can appear one day a workshop, another day a concert, an exhibition, a theatre, or perhaps all of it in the same time. VALENCIA 2099
A new urbanism for the countryside
Nowadays, we find ourselves facing a demographic growth, lack of food and biodiversity loss. The project reconsiders the “productive city“ concept and tries to allow a city growth while agricultural production is improved. In the latest years, the city of Valencia has lost 30% of its agricultural land. In order to stop this fact we create a new edge for the city. The edge avoids urban speculation and a city growth on its outside. It allows having a connected and perennial orchard whose infrastructures will not be affected by eventual changes of itself. The city will be able to host the new population and so face the demographic growth of the following years. However, no matter how big the urban increase is, the orchard will stay unaltered. The reason is that it will be protected and turned into a symbol of the city. Finalist
