A word from the President

Quel plaisir que de vous accueillir sur les terres historiques de la manche française du Championnat du Monde des Rallyes ; d’autant plus que le renouveau du Tour de Corse coïncide avec un format inédit qui, je l’espère, devrait ravir concurrents et spectateurs. Nous n’aurions, bien entendu, pas pu orchestrer ce retour sans le précieux soutien de partenaires indéfectibles. Je pense notamment aux collectivités locales : à la Collectivité Territoriale de Corse, sur laquelle rayonnera l’ensemble du rallye ; aux Conseils Départementaux de la Corse-du-Sud et de la Haute-Corse, dont les infrastructures joueront un rôle clé ; à la ville d’Ajaccio, qui accueillera les cérémonies de départ et d’arrivée ; à la ville de Bastia, où la première étape se clôturera ; à la ville de Porto-Vecchio, dont le port verra défiler les concurrents en fin de deuxième journée ; à la ville de Corte, sur laquelle se déploiera le Parc d’Assistance ; et à la ville de Propriano, qui accueillera l’ultime halte technique en fin d’épreuve. Je pense également aux partenaires privés : à Igol, incontournable partenaire qui nous accompagne aussi bien sur l’asphalte du Championnat de France que sur celle du Championnat du Monde ; à Air Corsica, qui devrait permettre au plus grand nombre de rallier l’île de Beauté ; à Orezza et à son précieux soutien ; au Groupe La Provence, dont le quoIt gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the historic home of the French round of the World Rally Championship, all the more so as the Tour of Corsica has been revived in an innovative format which, I hope, will delight drivers and spectators alike. Of course we wouldn’t have been able to bring the rally back without the precious backing of our faithful partners. In particular, I’m thinking about the local authorities, the whole Corsican Territorial Authority which will be visited by the rally, the Departmental Councils of the Corse du Sud and the Haute Corse whose infrastructures will play a key role. Ajaccio will host the start and finish ceremonies; the first leg will end in Bastia; the cars will parade along the port at the end of the second day in Porto-Vecchio; the service park will be installed in Corte and the final technical halt of the rally will take place in Propriano. We must not forget our private partners either: Igol, our irreplaceable collaborator which accompanies us in the French Championship as well as the World Championship, Air Corsica that will help transport everybody to the ‘Île de Beauté,’ Orezza and its valuable backing, the La Provence Group whose regional daily Corse Matin will ensure local coverage of the rally, the Radio France Group, which will provide unequalled radio broadcasting with France Info and France Bleu Corse RCFM, and finally the CANAL+ Group whose non-stop coverage of the Tour of Corsica on the CANAL+ SPORT channel will give the rally the dimension it deserves.

En 2008, lors de son unique apparition sur l’Île de Beauté, Sébastien avait décroché le titre Junior sous les couleurs de l’Équipe de France FFSA Rallye. En 2015, il sera le fer de lance d’une pléiade de talentueux pilotes qui, pour la plupart, découvriront les virages du Tour de Corse. Je souhaite ainsi à Éric Camilli et Yohan Rossel, les successeurs de Sébastien sous les couleurs du collectif tricolore, de briller du même éclat que leur aîné. Enfin, je tiens à formuler tous mes vœux de réussite aux concurrents du Championnat de France des Rallyes qui, grâce à l’aval de la FIA, auront l’occasion de se mesurer aux meilleurs pilotes mondiaux. C’est une belle épreuve qui s’annonce. D’un point de vue sportif tout d’abord, avec un schéma entièrement revisité grâce à l’étroite collaboration de la FIA ; mais aussi d’un point de vue humain, avec une population locale pleinement dévouée à la réussite du renouveau du Tour de Corse.

en veillant à respecter les normes édictées par la Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, au centre de laquelle figure notamment la sécurité de l’ensemble des acteurs du rallye. Seulement neuf épreuves spéciales attendent les concurrents, mais quelles épreuves ! Sept d’entre elles afficheront un kilométrage supérieur ou proche de 40 kilomètres, deux d’entre elles s’enchaîneront l’une à la suite de l’autre à deux reprises…

La Corse est une terre de rallye, où chacun de ses habitants est animé par une passion qui s’est construite au fil des années, depuis que la première édition comptant pour le Championnat du Monde des Rallyes s’y est déroulée en 1973. C’est en partant de ce constat que nous avons élaboré ce nouveau parcours, afin que tout un chacun puisse voir passer le Tour depuis le seuil de sa maison.

Sur cette édition 2015, mes équipes et moi avons choisi, avec le précieux concours des Associations Sportives Automobiles implantées en Corse, de rendre au rallye ses lettres de noblesse. Nombreux sont les tronçons de ce Tour de Corse à emprunter des pans d’histoire de l’épreuve. Nous espérons que concurrents et spectateurs sauront apprécier chacune des épreuves spéciales, et qu’ils prendront le même plaisir à les parcourir que nous avons pris à les tracer.

Rompant avec les éditions précédentes, nous avons donc pris le parti de faire du Tour de Corse 2015 un véritable périple sillonnant l’ensemble de l’Île de Beauté. Ainsi, de la Haute-Corse à la Corse-duSud, d’Ajaccio à Bastia, de Porto-Vecchio à Propriano en passant par Corte, plaque tournante du rallye, les quatre coins de la Corse seront visités par le Tour. L’accent a également été mis sur la performance et l’endurance, tout

It looks like it’s going to be a fantastic event. First of all, from a sporting point of view with an entirely revised layout thanks to close collaboration with the FIA; and secondly from a human point of view as the local population is completely devoted to making the revival of the Tour of Corsica a success. Corsica is real rally territory where every single one of its inhabitants is driven by a passion that has grown over the years, starting with the first event counting for the World Rally Championship run on the island in 1973. We used this factor as a starting point when we began designing the new route so that everybody could see the Tour passing in front of his/her doorway.

For the 2015 event my teams and I, with the help of the Corsican Sporting Associations, have decided to restore the Tour of Corsica to its former glory. Several of the specials of this year’s rally will use historic sections of the event. We hope that entrants and spectators will enjoy each one of the stages, and that they will take as much pleasure driving them as we had in laying them out! We broke with the previous rallies and took the gamble of turning the 2015 Tour of Corsica into a trip covering the whole of the ‘Île de Beauté.’ Thus, from the HauteCorse to the Corse du Sud, from Bastia to Porto-Vecchio to Propriano by way of Corte, the nerve centre of the rally, the Tour will visit the four corners of the island. We have also put the emphasis on speed and endurance, while making sure we respect the standards drawn up by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) at the core of which is the safety of all the players in the rally. Only nine special stages await the drivers - but what stages! Seven of them measure more than or close to 40 kilometers, and two of them follow on directly from each other on two occasions.
