WOODEN CLADDING East facade of building are glazed to keep the relationship between the natural surroundings as an extension of the interior. The rest of the facades are covered with wooden cladding. This element acts as a facade and shell for the design. It protects the structure and helps to articulate the exterior barn-shape with the natural and cultural context.

SOLAR PANELS The roofs of the southern facade contains photovoltaic panels used for producing renewable energy. The building energy requirements will be provided by photovoltaic panels due to the orientation of the prototype units specific to the sun path of each geographical area in Canada.

CLERESTORY WINDOWS Wind analysis helps to improve natural ventilation. Every “barn” is ventilated by a main clerestory window. The climate inside is controlled with natural sustainable design principles. Additionally, the use of mechanical awning windows are utilized to avoid green house effect, for proper ventilation and to allow natural light in the interior.
