Tasked with designing around a rustic, Mediterranean palette, the design focus es on a poured concrete counter, wood elements, white cabinetry, and Marrake ch tiles. The challenge was designing a seamless transition between a new kitchen and existing loft, where layout constraints were seen as opportunities to introduce aesthetic and functional de tails in the concrete.

Located in North-East Queens, the Núñez Residence has been in the fam ily for well over 25 years, however, due to aging infrastructure, a renovation was devised in-order for the house to be passed down to the next generation.

The house features a new footprint on a maxed out floor area ratio that allows for the creation of 3 bedrooms with walkin closets, 3.5 baths, and a number of common areas for a family that enjoys get-togethers and being in each other’s company. Along with a fully renovated house, the family has also chosen to de velop their garage and max out its allow able footprint.

Located in FiDi, this apartment had gone through an identity crisis with previous owners. Faced with painted black hard wood floors, dark walls, and industrial accents, the challenge was making this unit feel light and airy. The scope of work generally involved touching up every room - with the main body of work locat ed in the kitchen. Custom millwork was done throughout, as well as stripping and refinishing the existing hardwood floor.

office: Warehaus

Collaborated alongside the Design Direc tor from concept design to design devel opment, and interfaced with the client to deliver the necessary documents to the Virginia HUD.

St. Luke Apartments, once known as Es sex Village, is Henrico County’s largest subsidized housing complex. Notorious ly known for its deplorable conditions amongst county leaders, it has been riddled with pest infestations, broken railings and balconies, and pipe leaks throughout several years. Under previous management, many of these conditions had been largely ignored and residents were forced to live under unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Under new man agement and ownership with SAA | EVI, the existing 496 unit affordable housing complex will undergo a complete over haul with new community facilities, play grounds, renovations to all units, system updates, landscaping and infrastructural work to existing roadways, sewage, etc.

public porch

The porch is an emblematic symbol of com munity and gathering. Each entry at single story scale housing, and the areas to the left and /or right of each housing unit will be linked with a circular public porch made up of seating. shaded areas, surfaced treat ments, grass, picnic tables, and planting areas.

link & loop

The loop is a path, scaped much like a trail, that connects each one of the four neigh borhoods and links the various outdoor spaces across the village. Tree lined areas provide respite from the sun during the day, benches along the path create areas to take a break, and lamps along the path provide illumination and safety at night.

central greenway

Designed as a town square, the Central Greenway will be the core to St. Lukes, as it will connect two multi family communities and become an open, public promenade, giving the flexibility for a variety of activities to take place.

eat & play

Sitting next to two existing basketball courts, a space where families and friends of all ages can congregate was imagined. A playground anchors the play area while a picnic area sits nestled in-between two courts in order to create a combination of passive and active programs designed to encourage safe spaces for neighborhood children to play.

culivation block

Three main gardens were imagined using existing outdoor areas in order to help the community cultivate their surroundings with numerous vegetables, herbs, and plants. Families can cooperatively work in all 3 spaces, teaching their children how to plant, while also getting to know their re spective neighbors, as these three islands become centers.

innovation center

Linking St. Lukes with the surrounding com munity, the Innovation Center will not only serve as a conduit, but as an activities cen ter for the community.

12TH & MACDONALD

location: Richmond, CA

office: Warehaus

status: Schematic | Planning role: Designer

Collaborated alongside the Design Di rector from concept through schematic design, and interfaced with the client in order to deliver the necessary documen tation, visualizations, diagrams and pre sentations for approvals from the City of Richmond.

In the last 20 years, Tech has evolved the Bay area to the point where it accounts for 20% of all payroll jobs in the nine-coun ty region. Even though the population has increased significantly due to the industry’s popularity, it has slowed, and in many cases, counties have been los ing residents due to the increased price of housing. With the new connection to Richmond via ferry making it more ac cessible to and from San Francisco, the City will be more attractive to priced out residents and businesses, leading to a new industry and developmental boom. Since the beginning of the decade, Rich mond has become the choice for several of the nation’s top companies. Amazon, Whole Foods, and Restoration Hardware are among some of the few that now call the City its home. Although 12th & Mac donald will be the City of Richmond’s first major development, SAA | EVI, the Developer, aims to create a hub in down town Richmond that invests in people and connects the community, while also improving social, economic, education al and environmental conditions without displacing residents amidst a time of gentrification. Consuming two blocks of Macdonald Avenue, the mixed-use de velopment will feature over 50,000 sf of retail space and 378 units of housing at affordable rates built along two phases.

METRO WALK PHASE II

location: Richmond, CA office: Warehaus status: Schematic | Planning role: Designer

Collaborated alongside the Design Di rector to produce the winning RFP for the City of Richmond’s Metro Walk Phase II project. Together, we brainstormed a concept and created a presentation that was later presented to the City amongst 6 other firms.

SAA | EVI, a Developer based out of Bal timore, has had a strong presence in the City of Richmond over the last few years. To date, they have won a few projects in the city: a retail space on the ground floor of the BART garage, and 12th and Macdonald (the largest development to date in Richmond). When Richmond asked SAA | EVI to participate in the RFP competition for Metro Walk Phase II, it was an opportunity to showcase the di rect impact that the Developer could have towards the community, as a whole, for the next few decades. Richmond, the last untouched location of the Bay Area, does not have the housing, amenities, and sprawling businesses that other cities across the Bay have. For the most part, during the tech boom, it was a city that had largely been ignored. Carefully phasing SAA | EVI’s projects into 3 parts, we’re able to carefully groom a future for Richmond so that the program lacking in the community slowly comes into play with each phase. Starting with the BART garage, then 12th & Macdonald, and ending with Metro Walk Phase II, we not only build up momentum in size, but we begin to densify this part of the city and connect each of the projects via a corri dor due to their close proximity. Consid ering that there is a lack of program and resources in the area at the moment, the ultimate goal is to begin to shape Rich mond’s landscape with these 3 phases. Setting the foundation with these proj ects will allow the inserted program to intertwine, mesh, and grow organically over the following years.

This custom piece is a design-build fab rication with flexible capabilities that in cluded a desk, storage, and displays. The challenge was creating a small piece that undertook the required program and flex ibility, was operable, and was discreet enough to go unoticeable in the apart ment, as the desire was to hide the ap pearance and clutter of a functioning work space. Inside, a square steel tube frame with lateral cross bracing supports nine recycled oak planks turned shelves. Out side, a permeable laser cut plexi-glass grid is suspended between diagonal aluminum ‘H’ channel panels.

L’AVENUE RESTAURANT

location: New York, NY office: Gensler status: Completed 2019 role: Project Architect

With Phillipe Starck as the Designer, Gensler was the AOR for the restaurant on the 8th and 9th floors. Up through design development, my job, along with the Project Manager, was to provide the STARCK team with all the neces sary information to design the project (a white-box package, code research, etc.) to then take their proposed vision and develop it into a set of documents for bid and construction, while also co ordinating with all of the consultants and the Saks Design Team.

For many years, the 8th Floor at Saks was home to Cafe SFA, a subpar eat ery exposed to the retailers’ clothing racks and assemblies without much foot traffic. In Saks’ $250 million storewide renovation effort, a deal was struck with Costes Group to bring their famed L’Avenue on Avenue Montaigne restau rant to New York City. With L’Avenue at Saks being the first American outpost for the Costes Group empire, Saks aims to position itself above its competitors in New York by introducing a restaurant that is well known in Paris for attracting elite celebrities, athletes, and fashion designers. Designed by Philippe Starck with Gensler as AOR, the 16,000 square foot restaurant has two themes sepa rated along two floors; level 8 being Le Chalet and level 9, The Salon. Those that walk through Le Chalet experience a cozy, cabin-like feel with inspiration from the French Alps. Just up a curved staircase to the 9th floor lies The Salon, a dining area featuring ivory and pink tones that are reminiscent of French haute couture seen in magazines such as Vogue and films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s. With two completely differ ent and complimentary spaces, Starck strived to create a yin and yang effect, while also introducing what in his mind is old Frech glamour, with a twist.

Foundry, a restaurant located in Leba non, PA, prides itself on its culinary craft manship by cooking each piece of meat and fish over a wood-burning stove. In June of 2019, they will be moving to a new home in Lititz, PA, where the famous Wilbur Chocolate factory operated for roughly 125 years. Although Wilbur will be moving its operations elsewhere, the landmarked factory will stay intact. Mov ing into the location will be a series of condos and a Hilton Tapestry, however, located on the ground floor will be Black worth Grill - a new chapter. The design of the 130 seat restaurant sought to cel ebrate the historic elements of the space by re-utilizing the original brick walls, ex posing the original wood columns, and maintaining the existing wood floor. With various zones of dining, the restaurant’s feature is the open kitchen, which is visi ble throughout the entire space.

Actively participated in every step of the design process to completion. Roles are split between project manager and proj ect architect, however, I have also been technical lead, having developed the project standards, master details, and graphics for roll-outs in Tend’s moment of expansion

Tend is a new entry to the dental market, focusing on the customer experience, with a sensitivity to acoustics, lighting, wait times, and customer amenities that is unique to the dental realm. Each loca tion is approximately 3,000 sf, with the traditional mix of exam rooms, steriliza tion facilities, as well as a new layer of customer amenities such as a Welcome Bar, Brush Bar, and a Den. These spaces serve to elevate the customer experi ence and address the shortcomings of the traditional dental facility.

Alongside Tend and several of the Na tion’s leading dental consultants, the Lawrence Group created and developed the brand standards, as well as the ar chitectural kit of parts for the first 5 lo cations in the Metropolitan New York area.

REGAL THEATERS

location: Nationwide office: Lawrence Group status: Ongoing role: Core & Shell + Interior

Collaborated on a number of fit-outs and new-builds across several U.S. locations with a significantly-sized team. In these locations, I worked with a smaller por tion of the team to develop details and standards for both interior and exterior scopes.

In an ever-evolving world, Regal has taken the opportunity to rebrand and re model their theaters across the country by expanding their square footage, re moving outdated ticket booths, incorpo rating 4D-X high-tech auditoriums (which feature a 4D movie experience with wind, fog, rian, lightning, snow, bubble, vibra tions, and scents), updating conces sions, and updating interior and exterior finishes.

Accomodating itself to a digital world, ticket and concession purchases are done through an app. Consumers will be able to order their tickets, as well as food and drinks for when they arrive at the movie theater. Having fallen behind over the last decade, Regal hopes to cre ate an immersive experience geared to wards the advancement of technology in today’s day-in-age.

ADIDAS FIFTH AVENUE

location: New York, NY office: Gensler status: Completed 2016 role: Designer

Produced design development and con struction documents with a small team.

Located in the heart of 5th Avenue, the Adidas NYC Flagship is the brand’s largest store to date with 45,000 square feet of real estate spread out amongst four floors.

The concept behind the flagship is stadi um retail. Inspired by high school stadium culture, the entrance welcomes customers through a tunnel. Once inside, consumers climb concrete stairs along sets of bleach ers that face 5th avenue to access the other floors. Clothes are tried on in locker rooms, and point of service stations resem ble concession stands and ticket booths.

Customers are encouraged to interact with these elements, as they create a point of familiarity with their sports culture past, and they mimick the feel of a true sporting arena.

- The main floor features the launch zone, where the latest trends are exhibited, as well as a New York-themed merchandise shop and juices | snacks.

- The bleachers feature a life-size bronze statue of Adidas founder Adolf Dassler.

- The second floor features the women’s collection, with an incorporated large shoe wall, as well as separate sections for train ing and running products. There is also a mini running track where consumers can be analyzed by store assiciates to make sure they’re purchasing the right products.

- The third floor is home to Miadidas, the brand’s customization studio.

- The lower level focuses on men’s prod ucts, with areas for all sports, compression merchandise, gait analysis, a turf area, and a print shop for customized jerseys.

CADILLAC HOUSE

location: Shanghai, CH

office: Gensler

status: Completed 2019 role: Designer

Collaborated alongside the Design Direc tor and Branding team to deliver 100% concept, schematic, and design devel opment packages while interfacing with the client on a weekly basis. My role was centered on designing the flexible VIP room, as well as developing the precision pattern along the building core.

Over the last decade, Cadillac has ex perienced an overhaul in their branding and image. Having started by uprooting their headquarters from Detroit to New York City, the brand was set to not only appeal to a new crowd, but a new age group. The Cadillac House in Shang hai is one of the many initiatives going forward by Cadillac in their rebranding phase. Its significance could not be more important, as it not only celebrates the brand’s history, it introduces a new way of purchasing vehicles and bringing a community of Cadillac owners togeth er through a range of technological and virtual experiences.

CITIBANK

location: Nationwide office: Gensler status: Ongoing role: Designer

Collaborating with a larger team across most of the U.S. Gensler offices, the New York office focused on conceptu alizing Citibank standards and rebrand for implementation on Flagships and Branches nationwide. I was involved in both developing conceptualizations, schematics, and design development portions for Flagships, as well as manag ing design and construction for smaller branches in the NY metro area.

Citibank partnered with Gensler to ex plore the future of retail banking, fo cusing on both flagship and branches. With an emphasis on how to rebrand and reconfigure flagaship locations, we conceptualized dividing retail banking (Citibank) and exclusive private banking (Citigold) into two separate areas and experiences. In this instance, in Chicago, the retail portion focused on quick inand-out banking with interactive media walls for those curious to learn about ac counts and services. The private banking portion was geared more towards con sultation and established clients, with warmer tones and more refined furniture and finishes.

et al. collaborative was approached by Alumni to redesign the new concept for the Crown Heights, Brooklyn location for the recent rebranding of the store. Envisioning the Utica location as an an chor in the community, et al. was tasked with designing a flexible, safe, fami ly-centered space that would serve as a positive influence on the surrounding neighborhood. Having been a presence in the community for well over 20 years, the goal for Alumni, recently Rugged Sole, was to not only create a store that lived up to the value of an up and com ing gentrified area, but to design it in a manner in which it would be welcoming and approachable among residents in the neighborhood, main factors that had been lacking and causing it to lose busi ness and interest beforehand.

et al. collaborative was approached by Alumni to design the new concept for the Flatbush, Brooklyn location for the recent rebranding of the store, formerly known as Wealthy Hostage. Much like the Alum ni in Crown Heights, the Flatbush loca tion was envisioned to be an anchor in the community, as et al. was tasked with designing a flexible, safe, and family-cen tered space that would serve as a posi tive influence on the surrounding neigh borhood. The concept was to showcase the grit and aesthetic of Brooklyn with a raw, industrial palette that enhanced the vibrant colors of the clothes and sneak ers contrasted against the walls. Keep ing an open plan that allows for all items to be organized against the perimeter, a focal point was created in the form of a light sculpture, showcasing the latest trends, while also attracting the attention of pedestrians on the sidewalk.

DIEM | ART BASEL

location: Miami, FL office: et al. collaborative status: Completed 2015 role: Lead Designer

Led the design intent and coordinated with the millworker in Florida to com plete all podiums for the exhibition.

et al. collaborative was approached by DIEM to design a pop-up shop at the annual Art Basel festival in Miami that could work as both a retail concept and an event. Showcasing their new “1992” line, a grid of 2 types of wooden lac quered painted modules resembling Olympic Podiums were used to display the latest merchandise. The arranged grid invited visitors to meander and experience from multiple view points, as the podiums were designed to offer maximum flexibility and display while also creating unformity in the space.

Located at the entrance, the step and repeat area set the tone for the pop-up theme, provid ing an olympic podium for customer | visitor in teraction, as well as a photo opportunity.

et al. collaborative was approached by Innocor Comfort to revitalize its show room space to compliment their core product line of bed pillows and mattress es. The design basis itself on versatility, as modular and mobile furniture are used throughout. The floor plan is arranged primarily using a permeable and func tional floor-to-ceiling L-shape wall dis play system containing storage and hid den shelving, as well as two integrated modular wall panels that pivot on caster wheels that can be positioned to extend into the main space, or retract and be come invisible depending on the needs of the day. Particular attention was drawn towards the division of public and private spaces. While the wall display system acts as a divider, it creates moments of visibility with its permeability, as meeting spaces and the main showroom are visi ble, yet physically partitioned.

location: Queens, NY office: et al. collaborative status: (on hold) role: Lead Designer

Led the design and actively participated in every step of the design process to the current status, interfaced with the client, compiled presentations to present to active club members and the board, reached out to vendors and contractors, created a design development set, and worked on budgets

Established in 1940 by immigrants of the North-West region of Galicia, Spain, the Unity Gallega of the U.S., also known as Casa Galicia, is a private social/cultural club with over 1,000 members to date. A society rich in history, Casa Galicia pro vides various services and functions to its community that serve to educate first, second, and third generation children of members about the region and its cus toms, however, renovating the club came as an initiative from its current board to improve the standards of a dated build ing in order to meet the demand of an increased membership, maintain the interest of current members, attract a stronger youth base, and improve the felxibility of the building’s spaces in or der to meet the demands of its current programs and additional ones to be of fered, as the current situation finds many of their functions overlapping due to wasted space. The goal was to present a design to the community that provided the flexibility and timelessness not only needed for the current generation of members, but one that laid out the foot print for generations to come.

In the Fall of 2012, 1stAveMachine approached et al. with the idea of transforming a 10,000 sf loft space in Dumbo into their new head office after having outgrown their space at the time. Taking inspiration from blended live work spaces and an interest in collaborative work environments, the design strives to promote movement and conversation away from the confines of a desk or cubicle, into various zones where exchange and integration take place ca sually. Having been unused for decades, and once the home of a Benjamin Moore factory, the aim was to keep the soul of a valuable piece of Brooklyn’s industrial history and marryn it the new age.
