22-year-old professional architect, born on September 1, 1998. I am a person who likes to constantly learn about the different areas of architecture, especially the techniques and configurations from materials to buildings, and to design new spaces that are functional for the area that is required. My goal is to adapt to a good workspace in which it helps me expand my skills as an architect, and to be able to develop professionally there and to contribute my knowledge and ideas in the projects that I can be part of. I have lived my childhood and my adolescence in Sincelejo, Colombia where I attended the Altair de la Sabana High School, later I did my architecture studies at the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Las Flores Neighborhood, Barranquilla, Colombia

GRADUATE PROJECT / THESIS

Year: 2019 - 2 / 2020 - 1 Type: Social - Sports Public Space - Community Location: Barranquilla, Atlรกntico, Colombia

Attending to one of the most important problems in the sector, is the lack of equipment and public spaces for recreation. The importance of outdoor spaces and sports fields are linked in favor of improving health and a positive relationship between sports space and general well-being has been shown. It is also understood that the benefits of urban space extend to solutions for social inclusion and sustainability of a local community. For this reason, a space for recreation and sports education is proposed for the sector, in which the empty lot chosen for this project is located on 106th street and borders the river, since it is a vacant lot and a strategic point for the neighborhood . 6

Located to the north in the city of Barranquilla, in the locality of Riomar, on the banks of the Magdalena River and the Ciénaga de Mallorquín basin. In this neighborhood, socioeconomic stratum 1 predominates, and it is classified mostly for residential use and a commercial part. The people of the Las Flores neighborhood are characterized by being people dedicated to their work and home, for being happy and carnival people, despite the fact that they do not have enough spaces for leisure. 50% of the population of the neighborhood is not native, but they have been welcomed in recent years. Much of the neighborhood is dedicated to fishing and the restaurant trade, since, being a neighborhood located near Bocas de Cenizas, it gets a tourist character but with very low movement. According to the Office of Citizen Participation of the Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla, the Las Flores neighborhood has a number of 70 blocks. Its population has a total of 8,947 people, of which 51% are male and 49% female, so it can be said that there is homogeneity in this regard. Most of this population lives in their own homes, in the same way in apartments and on a very small scale in rooms since they are generally large families. 8

SUSTAINABILI T Y URBAN AND NORMAT I VE ANALYSIS

2. URBAN TREATMENTS AND BUILDING

4. MOVILITY

5. URBAN COMPLEXITY

6. URBAN METABOLISM - EFFICIENCY

Through this analysis it is concluded that Las Flores is a neighborhood, which, due to its strategic location, has great potential, since it borders both the Magdalena River and the Mallorquín Cienaga, these being the most important bodies of water in the region. city. It has a good connection of roads to the city and service coverage. However, it can be found that there are certain shortcomings in the neighborhood that can have an impact such as the following: The neighborhood has a lack of public spaces, and mostly of recreation for the neighborhood itself. In which this neighborhood has a high population of adolescents, children and young adults, with which they do not have the necessary education, nor a space for them to recreate. It is not taking advantage of the geographical location or the opportunities that the neighborhood would have in the future.

SPORTS - HEALTH AND METHOD TO FIGH T AGAINST VIOLENCE

Lalo de (1981) concluded that the health of a community is determined by the intersection of four variables: human biology, the environment, health care, and “lifestyle”. Of these four determinants, the one that most affects people’s health is lifestyle. The idea then is to pose the common task around some simple facts (such as our lifestyle) on which we can act; essentially human facts, such as being alive and staying healthy, which in the personal sphere means regaining control of the body and mind through a return to nature, a simple meal, invigorating physical activity, sensitivity integral, to horizontal solidarity. On a general scale, the issue is simpler and at the same time more complex. (Ariasca, 2009) New forms of violence appear in everyday life that continually disrupt the fundamental values of humanity.

12

Sport can become a valid tool that serves precisely to fight against violence, since in its dynamics solidarity, teamwork, tolerance, honesty and respect for others, among others, values can be learned. (Betelli, 2013).

RECREATION Recreation is the time of leisure or entertainment that a person decides to have, although it is not related to a sedentary lifestyle or to the complete physical or spiritual rest of the individual. Rather, it is related to carrying out activities that can encourage spiritual fulfillment, the charge of physical energies, and in general, those activities that lead to the well-being of the person. That is why it would have a positive impact on the mentality of the population.

REVI TALIZATION & REGENERATION To revitalize is to give new life to something that was in a period of deterioration or inactivity and to regenerate is to fix something that was deteriorated and put it in good condition. Therefore, not only is the objective of physical education, but also, the neighborhood will be given life through vegetation, since it has very little vegetation and green spaces. In addition, it is to restore life to the river, since the correct use of this natural source has not been taken.

VIOLENCE DECREASE

HEALTH AND FI TNESS It is known that the more one has the body in motion, the more years of life one has. The idea is not only to take advantage of sports, but also to achieve a good physical condition and healthy, which reduces the mortality rate.

SOCIAL INCLUSION The public space destined for recreation proposes as a vision to generate the value of companionship in the population. That is why the neighborhood will have a positive aspect of social inclusion, since it may not only be in service for the area, but also for the urbanizations surrounding the sector.

SOURCE OF EMPLOYMEN T In addition to being a center dedicated to sports, recreation and providing public space, it will be a new source of employment, knowing that the usual source of employment is fishing, this project will add a new method for everything you want.

13

RECREAT ION SPORTS CEN T ER - L AS FLORES

As mentioned above, one of the great positive aspects that the project will provide is the reduction of violence, since through it values such as group work, solidarity, companionship and others will be promoted.

DESIGN PROCCESS The building’s design is defined by strong formal elements that accentuate the public areas along the front of the building. The design process is initially conditioned by the coherent fit of the main pieces of the program, that is, the sports hall, the indoor pool, the gym and the courts for each sport. This fit had to be done in three dimensions of space since some of these uses also demand quite considerable free heights. At the same time, a design with maximum functional efficiency was sought. To do this, an access quota was decided in which the two most voluminous pieces of the program could be located, the track of the sports hall and the water areas of the covered pools. The main design of the facade skin in the swimming spaces and the coliseum is based on a local pattern, which is the thatched roofs of the neighboring restaurants along the river and from there a composition is drawn.

Locality of Puerta de Oro, Barranquilla, Colombia

URBAN EQUIPMENTS

Year: 2018 - 1 Type: Community - Social Educational Location: Barranquilla, Atlántico, Colombia

“The cultural center where it helps to generate changes for the future with a good education, through reading, writing and literacy. From a letter, learning begins ”. In the neighborhood throughout its history, the violence that exists in it has been able to denote a lot, a neighborhood that has its people without any public space where they can be distracted, forgotten from the rest of the city and therefore, violence dominates. The idea of implementing a cultural center whose cultural value is the letters is envisaged, since from a letter a word is obtained, and from several words, knowledge is obtained. It will not only be a learning space, but also a place where the inhabitants of Siape go to amuse themselves and hang out, the purpose is to make them feel welcomed like their homes. 28

URBAN CON TEX T This project is located in the Siape neighborhood, on the banks of the Magdalena River in the city of Barranquilla, in the northern part of the city where the industrial and port sector is located. Close to it is the Gran Malecón project and the convention center: Puerta de Oro. These projects, despite being on a metropolitan scale, have not created a social impact for the nearby sectors, remaining neighborhoods like Siape, isolated by a stream and a wall, in which it is connected by a few bridges. In this analysis, it is observed how the “Puerta de Oro” sector in the city of Barranquilla is made up, and what decisions were made for the design of the project. .

Through the study carried out, conclusions are drawn on how to improve the sector such as: Locate the project where a coal factory is located, since being in an area of entry of winds such as the bank of the Magdalena River, it would contaminate the environment of Siape and the Sector. Unify Carrera 85 with Avenida del Rio and create another access by the side of the stream and unify the streets of the neighborhood with said access and end the barrier, unify and extend the project of the Gran Malecรณn towards the project site in order to create a pedestrian access through it, create a tree barrier which would control the entrance to high wind power. 31

DESIGN PROCESS

It is oriented in the direction of the wind so that a crosswind can be generated and it is not obstructed, either by the building.

A height is created depending on the power of the wind, since being on the banks of the river, the power of the wind is high.

A slope is applied to the roof to prevent full solar radiation during the day.

Depending on the slope created, a distance of 30 degrees is taken between the structural axis to create the stepping of the roof, which would help to reduce the solar impact.

By locating the reception in the middle of the building, a place that would not be very inhabited, a lattice opening is made along each end, which would allow the passage of the crosswind and through the lattice, moderate the wind.

CULTURAL CEN T ER - LE T RAS DE SIAPE

The spaces that generate welcoming are understood, for which they would be used to be places in the open air and where to sit and think.

CONCLUSIONS Based on the conclusions made, the following solutions are proposed: 1. Proposal of a territorial development scheme that efficiently zoning urban areas. And of efficient solutions to the problems present in the municipality. 2. Improve and expand the equipment to try to reduce the general percentage of deficit that the equipment has. Propose new areas for the development of equipment. 3. Start a reforestation process that reduces the environmental and social impact that the furtive extraction of the municipality’s natural resources has brought with it, in addition to expanding the number of green areas within the urban area by relocating neighborhoods that are in some type of risk. 4. Execute construction plans for new urban areas to evacuate areas that are at risk from natural phenomena such as landslides by streams or instability due to soil erosion. Similarly develop a residential improvement plan that provides optimal materials for the construction of homes. 5. Drinking water: Construction of a desalination plant on the coast of the municipality to ensure a constant flow of water in the municipality and neighboring municipalities. Sewerage: Design and build the municipal sewerage system to correctly conduct all the waste produced in the urban area and avoid the contamination of water sources. Electricity: Construction of clean electrical generation systems, wind towers, solar panels and hydroelectric generation. Sanitation: Implementation of a cleaning and collection plan that is responsible for the proper treatment of all solid waste produced in the municipality. 6. Intervention of the municipal road network to complete the paving of main roads in a first stage, after this intervene the existing roads and generate the necessary areas for their optimal functioning as platforms and front gardens. 7. It is proposed to carry out a system of terraces made up of small nuclei of residential spaces for single-family and two-family homes that will reduce the percentage of overcrowding that currently exists in the municipality. Each terrace would be made up of a number of homes, recreational spaces, green areas and mixed-use buildings to cover the basic needs of the municipality. These nuclei would have all the basic services necessary to inhabit the spaces comfortably without the need to move to other municipalities.

Las Flores Neighborhood, Barranquilla, Colombia

PUBLIC SPACE / URBAN DESIGN

Year: 2018 - 2

Type: Landscape Project Public

Location: Barranquilla, AtlĂĄntico, Colombia

Through this approach for a metropolitan park in the Las Flores neighborhood, it seeks to generate a space of association and integrity among the community, where this can also be beneficial for the people who use it. This space would also be dedicated to the environment and its preservation where it is self-sustaining. It also seeks to create an image of the CiĂŠnaga as a part of the park, where these two environments are unified and it is the connection point between the neighborhood and the Mallorquin Marsh. 62
