CHAMARTIN CANOPY
MADRID,SPAIN
FINAL PROJECT: Prof. Alberto Pieltain PROGRAM: Train Station and Tranport hub LOCATION: Calle Agustín de Foxá, Madrid, 28036, Spain DESCRIPTION: The north station of Madrid will be the heart DESCRI
of the largest development in Madrid’s recent history. It is an opportunity to create a new open, social and sustainable station to welcome international visitors and residents alike. To achieve these goals a large timber canopy will cover the station area. The transportation hub will be mostly underground, leaving the space below the canopy to pedestrians and public facil ities. Thanks to a grid-shell structure, timber acquires a relevant role in the new gateway to Madrid as a sustainable solution to steel and concrete. As well as, creating a unique and iconic space enhanced by the sunlight f iltered through the textile layer and the structural lattice.

BARBATE CLIFFS TOWER
CADIZ
STUDIO PROJECT: Prof. Ignacio Vicens PROGRAM: Retreat dwellings LOCATION: Barbate Cliffs, 11150, Cadiz, Spain DESCRIPTION: The tower is designed to house people that DESCRI
need a break f rom daily live distractions to focus on personal projects. This desire for isolation leads to an open layout and only one apartment per oor. T he open layout is achieved by a concrete core with cantilevered platforms. The structural core also houses the stairway, the elevator, and the service areas. This allows the dweller to have all the platform for him and his needs. To appreciate better the atness of the ocean's horizon curtains and glass were found more appropriate than regular walls. The glass is only used to enclose the small conditioned space, avoiding vertical mullions when possible. The curtains instead, were chosen for their ability to diffuse light and to reproduce the movement of the winds. Besides the curtains can be rearranged at will.

ARTS AND CARS
CHICAGO, IL, USA
STUDIO PROJECT: Prof. Andrew Tinucci PROGRAM: Car Parking + Art Gallery LOCATION: 942 W Lake st, Chicago, IL 60607, USA DESCRIPTION: Our client is the owner of an Art gallery DESCRI
located right next to the Morgan CTA Station in the developing neighbourhood of West Loop. Taking advantage of its privileged location, the building merges art with transportation creating a different experience for comuters while boosting the art gallery. The structure is formed by leaning pillars to save the old brick gallery as well as creating an open plaza at the street level where the art promenade begins. As the structure rises the floor plans and car ramps have to adapt to these pillars creating different spaces ready to be f illed with art and cars. On top of these pillars lies a 3-storey truss that allows a more organized layout for different parking conditions such as classic car colle lections.

ROBERT
CROWN
CENTER
EVANSTON
STUDIO PROJECT: Prof. David Woodhouse PROGRAM: Cultural Center + 2 Ice Rinks + Sport courts LOCATION: 1701 Main St, Evanston, IL 60202, USA DESCRIPTION: The city of Evanston decided to tear down DESCRI
the obsolete Robert Crown Center to build a better complex integrated into the park and the neighborhood. To optimize the area of the park the buildings that shape the project are moved to the west side, where the busiest street is located. Instead of creating one massive building the program is separated into different volumes. This way the buildings merge with the park through the courtyards generated between them that serve as “exterior rooms” as well. The park also flows through the buildings thanks to the greenhouse loop that connects the different buildings and the park. The loop’s main feature is the walkway that allows anyone to have a glance of every activity available at the complex. It also hosts the main entrance, the library or a restaurant.

CYCLE OF HARVEST
SENEGAL
ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION: Kaira Looro PROGRAM: Sacred Architecture LOCATION: Tanaf, Senegal DESCRIPTION: In a valley where water is scarce year-round, DESCRI
the new sanctuary collects as much water as it can during the wet season creating a clean water reservoir for the dry season. However, the water will not last the whole dry season, so when the water reaches a low, the artificial pond can become a harvest area rich in soil deposits. This harvest area can be used to produce food or into material for thatched roofs. This is the cy cycle that the project aims to achieve. Although it looks like it is a complex form, it isn’t hard to build thanks to the catenary arches and their properties. The arcade facade enhances the unique dynamic space for prayer the water/vegetation cycle makes. Creating more private spaces with filtered light when the plants grow and cooler spaces with reflections when the pond is full.
