Uppsala 2014 – International Forum of the European Youth Parliament EYP Sweden: Call for Vice-Presidents and Chairs Dear all, Historically, the European Youth Parliament, as an organisation, has been conceived as a platform for political debate and promotion of intercultural understanding between young students aged 16 to 21. Through the course of 27 years not only has EYP become one of the largest European debate platforms of its kind but due to its functional framework and unique approach it has constituted an educational basis for a large number of individuals practising today in areas ranging from politics, law, European studies or languages, to medicine, engineering or applied mathematics. I am sure that not once have your friends, acquaintances or co-workers showed interest in taking part in an EYP event only to face the disappointment of being restricted by age to do so. Having embraced a common vision for an EYP that offers endless opportunities to young people, the Swedish National Committee and I have decided to embark on a trial EYP session concept dedicated to university students only. Uppsala International Forum 2014 will be the first encounter with EYP for more than 70 university students. While maintaining the typical EYP framework, the content of this session will be of the highest academic standard and will require adult training techniques. What I am looking for in terms of the chairs team is individuals with strong academic motivation, the ability to moderate in depth topic related discussions and confidence in interacting with university students. Although EYP experience is relevant, it will not constitute the main criteria in selecting the team members, no age limit is imposed and a diversity of academic backgrounds and educational experience is encouraged. The duties and prerequisites I require from you as a Vice-President and/or Chair in Uppsala will include, but are not limited to:
a) a comprehensive knowledge of EU institutional functioning and EU policies; b) ability to work collaboratively, prior and during the session, with: i) the academic Core Team and the President of the session; ii) university students; c) willingness to work outside the classical EYP format given the specificity of the session; d) availability for a online interview as part of the selection process.
For me this is this is one of the most exciting challenges I have accepted in relation to EYP and I am determined to take EYP outside its functional borders and into an academic environment, for university students. EYP Sweden and I invite you to take this challenge with us. My success is their success and their success is our success! Yours, Monica Moisin
