Dear sir/madam, I am writing to express my interest in working as an Architectural Assistant in your team. I am very excited about the possibility of working for a company like yours, which works in a wide range of scales of projects, and where I will have the opportunity to take part in a brilliant team on new architectural designs. With my Master’s degree in Architecture and my hands-on experience, I am confident that I have those specific qualities that you are looking for in a candidate. I personally believe that architecture and teamwork are synonyms. Even when I was studying individual subjects in my Master’s degree in Architecture at Technical University of Madrid (ETSAM), I felt the necessity of accepting constant feedbacks from friends and colleagues in a collaborative environment. I have one year of experience in teams designing projects across all building scales and stages and doing intensive researches about structures that can generate atmospheres for neighbors in existing buildings, using innovative materials which can fulfill their demands. The selection of some of the projects I took part in for special juries giving Honors distinctions confirmed that these methods can be efficient and trustful. In addition, while I was working in MP59, a co-founded practice with my university colleagues for our awarded “Piensa Sol” proposal, I started to see Architecture as a field of different roles and the great need of training all-rounder skills. Other prizes such as Europan13, a Golden Lion in Venice Biennale and an honorable mention in Oslo Architecture Triennale, helped me develop our creativity and commitment as a group. I would like to continue training and learning from new groups who make different and brilliant architecture. That is why I found your practice a perfect place for which I could be a valuable asset. I have immediate availability to start working. For further information, you will find attached my CV and Portfolio. I would like to thank you in advance for your time and consideration and I hope you can contact me. Sincerely, Jose M. de Andres MArch (Hons) Technical University of Madrid, ETSAM

The proposal emphasise the contemporary character of the building in opposition to the anonimous brick facades of the surrounding buildings. Moreover, the plastic skin of the tower, composed by thin panels of polycarbonate, allows the building to protect the interior from the cold castillian winter and the summer sun. The distribution of the dwelling have been carefully studied in order to minimize the dysfunctional spaces, such as corridors. Every dwelling has its living room in the corner of the tower, so they all have cross ventilation, sunlight and views to the Spanish vast plateau.

Sofwares used: Autocad, SketchUp+Vray, Photoshop This project consists of the resolution of a void between two common walls in the historical centre of San Sebastián de los Reyes, Spain. The conditions of the site, urban parametres and neighbours’ rights configure the shape and form of the desgn of this building. It tries to adapt to the existing pre-existences providing a renewed character.
residential building in s.sebastián_ CATEGORY: RESIDENTIAL Architect : Javier Vázquez Team : jose de andres, ana Sabugo, DAVID FERNANDEZ, David Freijeiro Year: 2016 Stages: 0 to 5
It is a two storey building with two dwellings in each floor. The entrance to the building is an unique courtyard with a common area for neighbours to socialize. The implantation of a sitting area and a green wall makes this fantastic meeting point a distinctive feature. The new building therefore fits perfectly in its surroundings at the same time it give us an image that results, in its outside and inside, contemporary.

Sofwares used: Autocad, Photoshop, Illustrator Our proposal revisits modern urbanism through this precise handicap. The housing units rise as isolated pure masses; yet, they are grouped into strategic clusters, connected by open-air platforms that provide a symbolic and physical place for casual and planned gathering, insert traditional urban values into the modern equation and call for a further reframing of today’s collectivity.

Like a clever dice game, these pieces move away from the shore to fit into forest clearings, building up an intermittent brick and wooden backdrop that emerge subtly behind reeds and trees, arousing the curiosity of Laajalahti hikers.

Sofwares used: Illustrator, Photoshop, Autocad. The project searches for an structural solution to protect Sestao’s San Pedro square from rain and sun radiation. The aim of the proposal is to create a common space of interchange between daily users (families, dog walkers, children, etc.) and sporadic public events.

The structure creates a triangulated grid that supports a plastic membrane of EFTE. This thin layer protects like an umbrella people below while allows light to break through it. On the other hand, the structure contain a lighting system that create a meeting point for the city and prevent criminal attitudes.

In conclusion, we want to transform an anonymous space into an iconic point that not only improve life conditions of the inhabitants but also put the city on the map.

Sofwares used: Photoshop, Autocad, SketchUp+Vray Almost 30 years after its operational closure, the mythical Battersea Power Station languishes in a wasteland by the river Thames in what could perfectly be an image from a post industrial apocalypse movie. Only three years later, lots of luxurious apartments, pools, tennis courts, etc have been designed, almost burying the spectacular view of the icon.
POP CULTURE CENTRE - BATTERSEA_ CATEGORY: CULTURE / MIXED USE FIRST CLASS HONORS Architect : jose de andres CO-directors: José g. Gallegos / Marcos parga Year: 2014 Stages: ACADEMIC ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
The project consists of a big longitudinal building inside the Station, located on the great central courtyard. Its new strong structure, composed by distinctive beams that envolve the spaces, helps the project be like a new city inside. The changing situations inside these public (library, auditorium, exhibition hall...) and private (workshops, offices...) spaces were conceived as a new situationist city, very similar to Constant’s changing New Babylon. We pretend to be respectful taking into account that we shouldn’t change the image of this historical building. This project has been thought to critizise the way of doing speculative architecture nowadays.
