Competition Odense, Denmark Museum 2013

01 The HCA museum redefinition, allows a simple yet important perspective into the future not only of a building but of city. The closed definition of the blocks seen in site surroundings unveals an unique opurtunity to discuss and rethink this definition itself. Considering the demolition of part of the exhisting museum we face the possibility to redesign the limits of this block, allowing us to create a visual boundary that defines the streets and public space and at the same time opens the inside of the block. In order to reinstate Hans Christian Andersen’s birthplace original conditions, as well as promoting the Memory Hall, we prupose the demolition of the newer adjacent buildings as a way to create an entrance that intimitaly connects this two buildings with the public space and offers the possibility to become part of city’s pedestrian paths. With the same logic of identifying a specific place to interveen, we recognise three other key places that allow a close relation with the city, both programatic and conceptual.

SITE PLAN The public space is designed as a shape molded by time. The ground sinks, and together with the courtyards, allows a sucession of paths that guide the visitors threw diferent environments and spaces, allowing na intimate connection between the museum, the birth place of Hans Christian Andersen and the city. Using a module of 2,5m x2,5 m we are able to solve diferent kinds of problems and generate diferent kinds of spaces and solutions. Changing the height and size of the “pixel it becomes possible to have a bench, a staircase or even a skylight.

02 Design of a multi-purpose centre and public space, that merged with the surroundings and created a square for the public. The design of the building allowed a continues flow of the urban paths and created a space for staying and also for cinema exhibitions and performances. Beneath the square the cultural space developed in a more intimist way allowing a clear distinction between outside and inside, only abrupted by the opening of the ceiling that was made possible by using Pladur construction sytems.

HELSINKI LIBRARY TYPE LOCATION PROGRAM YEAR

Competition Helsinki, Finland Library 2012

03 It is proposed a new social hub for the interchange of information for the ‘helsinki central library’ competition. an otherwise metalframe rectangular mass is seemingly melted as a path connecting the new part of the city to the older section makes its way over the stepped rooftop, marking a symbolic threshold through the site as well as a point of social interaction that separates two programmatically diverse sides of the building. containing more than just books, the library lures visitors in through three ambiguously-defined void spaces that may serve several social functions, gathering masses of people in a point of knowledge exchange. the library may also be a point of reference for the city as it represents a certain architectonic dynamism and social responsibility.

NEW NATIONAL GALLERY TYPE LOCATION PROGRAM YEAR

Competition Budapest, Hungary Museum 2014

04 The museum should be a park structure that opens towards the park - a natural meeting point in between people and cultures. Ground Zero | Gathering The Hungarian New National Gallery will be built in the Budapest City Park, a 120 hectar public space located in the core of Pest. Given the vast and complex program, our proposal intends to create a spatial organization mainly focused on the ground level. Vårosliget highly precious heritage that we need and want to preserve. Limits or boundaries (the Wall) We are not interested in having 41125 square meters intensely in contact with the soil, this would build an immense blocking mass that would defi nitely destroy the aim and\ spirit of the Park. Composition Art is a creation by man as an expression of the way he perceives reality - nature and society. In this sense man relates directly to nature and the measures of the human body become the natural proportion of everything. Structure We need to guarantee that the building works in a good and correct way, ensuring the comfort of the visitors. Consistency, excellence and accuracy, must be a part of this new structure, to perpetuate tradition and cultural behavior. Sustainability It is essential to understand the limits of technology and give priority to architectural consciousness in order to balance the necessary energy to supply the building. Concrete as a material, was invented by a Gardener because it was more resistant but mainly because it’s expression would merge in a very natural way with nature.

Project 04/19

04 Project 04/20

SITE PLAN Physical/permanent barriers and limits, often come as anti-natural to the nature of the open Public Park as well as to the spirit of Art as free and individual expression. We are not interested in having 41125 square meters intensely in contact with the soil, this would build an immense blocking mass that would definitely destroy the aim and\ spirit of the Park. In this specific case we should build in a very cautious way, we should build with nature, not against it. The ground courtyards allow for an easy yet effective way of merging building and nature, thus enhancing a continuous movement that starts in the Park and flows till the inside of the museum. Park vegetation will slide naturally under the big roof. Open and semi open patios, in a fragmented composition, bring rhythm and light to the inside ground, creating the sense of nature shaping the mass and the spaces inside of it. Project 04/21

SPACE TO CULTURE TYPE LOCATION PROGRAM YEAR

Competition Bologna, Italy Cultural 2014

05 Extraordinary advances in information technology have dramatically changed the nature of contemporary living, the production, consumption, discussion, or even the spaces where art, culture and leisure take place. So... “To avoid being a victim of history technology advances without resorting to its denial / we imagine a museum in two three parts, in the form of a complete mutual dependency with a maximum interface between them”! We take the two types of spaces from Koolhaas concept and add a third one: the “high-communication space”: a space “understood as a high-performance instrument rather than a design statement”, where it’s possible to communicate and share an “intercultural network”. All of three types of spaces are “based on new assumptions about the use of space and time, new ways of working are emerging and evolving fast. People have more options to control their use of space, time and tools. The new office space responds to demands and changing interaction.” But the third space is where you use the best advances of technology to absorb and interact in real time with other nationalities’ culture centers in a collective and not passive way. It’s an immersive experience that allows you to be in another place exchanging art, culture, opinions and experiences. “The increasing ubiquity and mobility of information technology paradoxically stresses the importance of face-to-face human interaction so that, at the dawn of the 21st century, business culture is communication.”

TEMPORARY BAR TYPE LOCATION PROGRAM YEAR

Temporary Porto, Portugal Bar 2013

06 We focused on finding a solution who did not respond only to formal issues- a parallelepiped and a 3x5 metal structure - or to the functional issues - serve drinks and play music, and shelter from the rain. As a temporary building with a strong interventionist character, it must afect people, involve space and identifiable. Attempts to infect the surroundings should not be confined to the existing volume. This is static, airtight, and its influence is limited by its surroundings. “A bar greater than 3 x 3 x 5 “ We propose a bar that can spread the enclosure, and each person can be part of it. We propose a bar that can be distributed and not only identified, but identifying each individual. Choose an object which together create a high volume air and can also be used individually, balloons filled with helium. Simplified the enclosure and simply draw a box made of reused wood doors, windows, chairs, etc. Create an identity, a volume of balloons which together create an illuminated mass, recognizable and contagious.
