Professional Summary
I had the incredible privilege in scripting, planning, managing and delivering Professor Demas Nwoko’s Golden Lion for lifetime achievement exhibition in La Biennale, Venice, May 2023. I am an ARB registered Sierra Leonean, British architect since 2009, based between Nigeria and Sierra Leone for the past five years. I am a designer, architect, writer, researcher, educator, mentor and publishing author. My two decades equilibrium career means— I invested half in traditional architectural practice in residential, major office refurbishment, mixed-used, and retail sectors in the UK. While the other half is travelling, researching several disciplines, themes and cultures on the African continent. In 2016, I had the privilege of working for Eva Jiricna (prolific architect, educator) in London, we have become long-term friends. I am a visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster, the Academy in Amsterdam, Columbia University, NYC and the University of Waterloo in Canada. In 2018, I was awarded two travelling fellowship grants, by the Churchill fellowship, London and the Graham Foundation in Chicago To live, assist and understudy Professor Demas Nwoko’s (protean designer, artist, master builder) work on architecture in the tropics, domicile for over two years in Idumuje Ugboko in Nigeria. I met him in Accra late 2016, while assisting the work of ArchiAfrika in Ghana, on a conservation and heritage guideline plan for the restoration of Tropical Modernist buildings. I founded JU:KO in 2007, a design oriented firm which views researching, writing and archiving as essential tools of design and practice, projects includes private residence, national competitions, interiors, hospitality sectors both in East Africa and London. My professional role models are Baba Demas Nwoko, Eva Jiricna and Pierre D’Avoine.
