I was on the hunt for ćevapi

In 2017, I had my first homemade ćevapi (skinless mince meat sausages made of beef and lamb) in Dubrovnik. Make it a meal by wrapping them in an oil-soaked lepinje (flatbread, essentially), sprinkled with diced, raw onions. Since then, I dreamed about eating it in other parts of Eastern Europe, specifically in Sarajevo, where they apparently dominate the ćevapi game. There's a particular charm to conversations with strangers while looking out onto the cobble stone roads, orange rooftops and silhouettes of mountains fading one behind another. ...But there's an even more wholesome feeling to it all when you've got salty, grilled ćevapi in one hand and a cool beer in another.
