The aim of the studio was to assimilate how to design new community environments for the ageing city of Milan: landscape, housing, commerce, work, leisure resulting in inclusive places for younger and older people - a place for all ages. The idea of using ramps enabled the floors to be interconnected through the corridor spaces. This particular stacking process also resulted in the formation of breakout spaces where there could be an unforced interaction between the intergenerational strata. Typologies for both individuals and groups as well as co-housing units have been employed. Cross Laminated Timber and Glulam have been the primary materials of construction fulfilling the sustainable requirement of the studio. The concept of shared spaces has been employed at the urban level to remain inclusive to all modes of urban movement.

A research-oriented thesis about understanding the capacity of an architecture towards peace by proposing scenarios along the politically charged India-Pakistan borderlands. It begins by exploring the topic of architecture and peace involving studies into the supposedly hostile foundational myths of the discipline; the symbiotic relation architecture shares with conflict and understanding the agency of architecture towards reconciliation. The research further delves into comprehending the larger meaning of borders and its significance today while exploring the implication of monumentality and how it could be a provocateur along these borderlands. The analysis of the selected border involved learning and unlearning the perceived history about the border and its origins; the countless conflicts between the two nations and the rising polarisation between them that has seen an increment in its confrontational built environment along the border. The strategy was thus to propose scenarios through which the intangible border line and the tangible fencing can be subverted and allow for a porous transfer across the border of a once inhibited people. 17 I

The Great Punjab Divide Borderlands | A0_1:200,000
The Punjab Canal Colonies is the name given to parts of western Punjab which were brought under cultivation through the construction of canals and agricultural colonisation during the British Raj. In total, over one million Punjabis settled in the new colonies, relieving demographic pressures in central Punjab. The Punjab, despite being only 9.7 per cent of the total area of British India, had by 1931 9,929,217 acres irrigated by canals colonies, the largest area in British India, and representing 46 per cent of the total land irrigated by canals.

Ecological Corridors
Territorial Plan | A0_1:200,000 The strategy at the territorial level is to connect the existing green ecosystems on either side of the border by proposing ecological corridors. The Keshopur Chambh bird sanctuary and the Harike wetlands on the Indian side, are connected to the Maalikpul Chaal Dam and the Changa Manga forest park on the Pakistani side via an ecological corridor that is proposed adjacent to an existing canal and an old river bed.

urban development Marrakech_Morocco
Semester: III | Thematic Studio_2020 Professors: Laura Montedoro | Alessandro Frigerio | Alice Buoli Groupmates: Anjali Sasidharan | Wiktor Waniek
in search of a Common Ground is a project that identifies the torn threads found in the polarising themes, concepts, ideas and insights of the Marrakchi landscape in order to approach the key challenges that resulted in the design proposal. Common Ground aims to suture+splice between the dichotomous issues or key concerns and insights from the research phase through ‘identity’ and ‘transitions’; one that signifies the static character of the city whilst the other deliberates on the transformation of the same. The idea of intervention begins with our understanding of Marrakech as a piece of fabric. Our aim is to enhance one of the threads of this existing fabric, pull it across the Highway+River Disconnect leading onto a new centrality of the riverfront and ending with the creation of a new fabric on the disconnected and impoverished eastern side. The intervention has kept the essence of the city by employing vernacular elements of the tannery rings, the arches, the water features, souq streets not in a way of blatant replication but rather an inspired urban environment that is contemporary and contextual at the same time. in search of a Common Ground_Urban Development | Marakkech_Morocco

The aim was to design a convention cum exhibition centre for the industrial town of Hosur. As a town that houses numerous industries namely Ashok Leyland, Titan Industries, and Caterpillar, it has lacked a serious space for showcasing manufactured commodities. Site studies were conducted and as a result requirements were duly drafted. Hosur being a conflux of agricultural lands, rocky hills and plateaus required a structure that would merge with the existing landscape but at the same time exhibit a unique character of its own. To signify the undulating scenery of the town, a tapered shape was adopted for the final form of the building. Central courtyards and ‘breathing spaces’ were aptly located with other secondary structures and amenities being suitably incorporated. The concept of 3Ps of Man is also fulfilled through the various design inputs followed in the proposal.

The Padel Pavilion is a design proposal for the City Life district resting in the abode of designs by Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Arata Isozaki and BIG. The recreational building promotes a sport that is becoming popular among the urban populace world over. As a first step, the existing courts were reorganized in order to optimize the internal distribution. The entrance was positioned on the north-east vertex, facing the park entrance towards Piazza Carlo Magno. Moving and rotating one of the fields thus creates a compact volume dedicated to sport while the auxiliary functions are positioned along a defined axis, on the north side. The portion of the roof that extends over the park is raised to identify the access to the building. This simple gesture connotes the form of architecture and identifies and integrates it in the context of CityLife.

Novecentopiùcento international competition project Aarch-Mi_Milan_Italy
Semester: IV [Masters] _ Internship Duration: 2 months_2021 Design Team: Giuseppe Mazzeo (chief architect), Ilke Cetin (team manager) Angelica Venzor, Giancarlo Argenzio, Bachar Naboulsi, Jose Sibi, Monika Karłowicz, Serra Gokkaya, Ylber Kahuqi
The competition revolved around finding a new language for the ‘Museo del Novecento’. The requirements were to aerially connect the two primary buildings and expand the museum premises by providing new experiential spaces in the secondary building. Situated in the main city square of Milan, the project was also about implementing a contemporary approach through design as well as materials in the historic square. The imagined proposal connects the two building with a double aerial bridge housed inside an arched glass box while defining new circulatory paths through the buildings to enhance the experience of the visitor. In fact the functional connection of the “New Paths” on the current path of the Museum is implemented by providing an insertion point (on the top floor of building one) and a point of resumption of this path on the lower floor, so as to allow the continuation of the visit on the existing path, 49 I *all images/dwgs belong to Aarch-Mi

On the other hand, these functional links find a single formal answer in the construction of a large hollow shape that houses them, protects them and defines their relationship with the city. In order to make the intervention sustainable in terms of implementation, we used self-supporting structures as light as possible and recyclable (metal and glass) and reduced minimum interventions on the building structures. In terms of management, sustainability is facilitated by the use of photovoltaic windows and by automatic cleaning systems for glass surfaces.

4 bedroom villa Pala_India_2017

The aim of the project was to design a four bedroom double-storey villa for a family of four. The client’s demand was for a home that moved away from the traditional architecture of the region and with a touch of minimalism. The rectangular but narrow site permitted a spatial planning that followed simple linear lines. The entrance to the house splits into two spaces; one for occasional guests and one to retain the privacy of the inhabitants. A total of three living rooms were proposed along with a closed louvred balcony on the upper floor that encourages interaction and togetherness. The centrally located double height staircase lobby also acts as an auxiliary ventilation shaft that would keep the rooms cool. The design thus exudes contemporary features which makes the structure clearly stand out from the other residential buildings in the neighbourhood as per the need of the client.
