Inflatable Pavilions - Old Town Edinburgh Building on data-recording surveys of Edinburgh, this pop-up pavilion concept was designed to embody the atmosphere, character and charm of Edinburgh. The intervention is composed of a series of inflatable, interchangeable ‘units’ which offer the city space-efficient venues on-demand. Envisaged as a seasonal infrastructure, the installation enables variations in configuration to facilitate different programmatic requirements. Parts of the structure move in response to the sound, ‘beating’ like a heart to the rhythm of the city, seeking to engage with passers-by.

Floating Dreamscape - Loch Linnhe, scotland A Utopian floating city set in a dystopian future, envisaged as an environmental response to climate change and mankind’s depletion of the Earth’s resources. My design was composed of 7 volumes, each addressing a different function; be it self-sustenance or a means of restoring the habitat of the world. The form was inspired by cloud patterns and hurricane shapes. Through this project i was introduced to the potential of parametric, computational design.

MELTED FORM A GRADUATE ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL FOR EDINBURGH Our design was influenced by experiments investigating the process of melting ice. The parti of the design, the atrium, expressed the process’s transitional stages (next page). The atrium focus prioritized the need for visual connectivity between studios and ease of circulation. It was an ideal student project due to our understanding of the needs of the user. This project elevated the challenges of organic design and the importance of a focused concept. ARCHITECTURE OF SPECTACLE
Geographic Library - Rome, Italy Sensitive integration of the library within Rome’s historic urban fabric was essential to the success of the design. Outwardly reserved, inwardly dynamic, the library contains a spherical void (referencing the globe), which contains the preexisting, onsite ruins. The void contains a waterfall, reflective pool and viewing areas serving as a quiet place for reflection as well as an immersive setting for imax-esque projections; a place to experience the world. The void is a lifeless vessel until animated by light. The pantheon was the main source of inspiration. Establishing meaningful connections between the peripheral spaces and the void (perspective section right) was the challenging part of this concept. 19

ATMOSPHERIC SECTION

The library’s parti was the central spherical void - a volume in which projections would be cast. To test the proposal, I constructed a sectional model of the sphere along side a ‘camera obscura’ projector. It worked by refracting the screen of my mobile phone and projecting it onto the sphere’s surface. Here are some results.
