CONFLICTED LAKES: A Modular Eco-Boat dock

Designed in collaboration with Chelsea Wheeler and Jessi Obregon An ecological boat dock highlights the conflicted history of Lake Onondaga as it adds to the positive regrowth. The dissolving modular form allows selective views to be shown along the lake’s shore while simultaneously providing an inviting habitat for fish, birds, algae, moss and other local ecologies to grow and add to the regeneration of the lake.

Model:

-digitally fabricated using laser cut chipboard -assembled through stacking -appx 24” x 12” x 9”

Graphic Timeline:

graphic timeline showing intensity of positive and negative events in the history of the lake, overlaid with fish and phosphorous level graphs -created in Illustrator and Photoshop

Rendering:

exterior rendering of boat dock in context -model made using Rhino, Revit, AutoCAD, -rendered in Revit -edited with Photoshop

(re)solving landscape: Interstate rest stop/ rural oasis This rural rest stop dissolves the constructed network of the national interstate system and places one into a celebrated environmental pavilion. The designed modular tiles let nature infiltrate by growing through the ground and shining through the porous walls.

The mouse HOuse: cast concrete children’s play structure Designed and built in collaboration with Roger Hubeli’s ARC 500 Tectonics of Concrete seminar. The culmination of a semester long design/build seminar, The Mouse House is an inhabitable concrete play structure. Designed and built with input from children and faculty at the largely special needs pre-school, Jowonio, the Mouse House engages children to explore its unique texture, mass, and perforations on all of its faces, all while being safely engineered and reinforced.

Built Object

-poured-in-place concrete -color tint through use of iron oxide -hybrid mold of digitally routed foam (for texture) hand assembled wooden formwork, and manually adjusted apertures

Courtyard City: A formal live/make complex punctured with life This live/make complex uses a series of differently sized courtyards to bring the city and public life into the heart of the structure. Organized on three separate scales, courtyards puncture a dense mass with both light and life.

URBAN FOREST: A PUBLIC ECO-RECYCLING CENTER/URBAN PARK A proposal for a new Eco-Tech waste facility on Roosevelt Island, NY. Following the high tech environmental proposals of Archigram and Buckminster Fuller, Urban Forest is a similarly inspired radical and theoretical proposal, grounded in current algae fuel technologies attempting to solve NYC’s imminent compost crisis.
