Bridging the Community

Competition: ARCASIA Student ADC 2021

Bridging the Community is a conceptual proposal for a 15-minute life circle that allows people to walk and bike for a 15-minute grace period where they can get their basic needs met without driving too far. The problem revolves around how a 15-minute life circle will work in terms of crossing from one barangay to another city barangay that promotes social infrastructure and the mobility of humans rather than cars.

The overall design intent of the proposal is to encourage and embrace by communities the importance of pedestrian mobility rather than car-oriented mobility. The pedestrian bridge will transform into an active urban park by attracting visitors to participate in programs and initiatives for the community. By providing entertaining activities for the public, the private sector will also benefit from the vibrance of the place.

Competition: Lagos Plastic City 2021

Plastic bags became almost a national symbol of waste and decadence; the reality is dawning about the effect of plastic waste on aquatic life. Lagos alone generates 9000 tons of waste daily; about 86% of the waste generated consists of plastic bottles and bags. Major problems like floods and other threats to lagoons and ocean could affect not only the people but the marine diversity too.

The proposal treats waterbodies through filtration, waste-to-energy power plants, and 3D printing of modular houses installed in the four major water bodies surrounded by nearby communities. The tower uses pumps to lift the waste materials and polluted water together to the highest level of the tower to filter it and recycle the material from the top to the bottom of the tower.

The project aims to reimagine streets as interactive spaces that offer various Filipino street cultures for use by locals and visitors. The objective is to connect people where they can learn, provide income-generating opportunities, and gain meaningful experiences from socializing.

The site for the project is located on a 100 meter street, and it will be a modular design for every barangay that will adapt the proposal. Hence, the variety of programs installed has the goal of filling the gap left by not having equal opportunities.
