Fabric Dyeing Process Tie dye is a fabric dyeing process with the use of bright colors. Basically, it is a process in which the material is folded in a particular pattern and then bound with rubber bands or strings. Then dye is applied only certain parts of the cloth. You can use different colored dyes to make beautiful designs. We will simply assess how dye: 1) Fabric dyeing: The first step is to select the fabric dye. First you must have a fabric that is a cellulose fiber ideally at least 80%. These include cotton, linen and rayon. You can even use silk. However, I would like to give a big no-no for 100% nylon or polyester. 2) Wash the fabric: The next step is to wash the fabric dye. You can wash the fabric in advance. 3) Lace fabric: You have to tie the garment with string or rubber bands. The idea behind is that the die bond dye should be spread evenly over the fabric. The area in which the dye is unable to reach remains white or gets a lighter color. Now there are several ways to tie the fabric that will give a lot of designs. For example, fabric vertical folds will horizontal stripes. You can create the folds, make a weak point in the way you want and then pull the thread from the other end and tie. This gives amazing results. You can create spiral patterns, random circles, diagonal stripes, concentric circles, hearts, rosettes, diamonds, squares, ovals, folds, and wrinkles. The sky is the limit for your imagination. 4) The mixture of dye: The next step is how to tie dye with dyes and mixing. You can mix the dyes and a week in advance and refrigerate. If possible, you should follow the manufacturer's instructions. You have to mix urea 15 ml or 1 tablespoon to 1 cup or 250 ml of water. You will need this solution separately for all colors. Then add the dye to this solution. You have to go for fiber reactive dyes and there are several good brands available in the market and online. You will need about 4 teaspoons per cup of the solution. A word of caution here, the dyes should be handled with care. You should wear a mask and rubber gloves. Dye solutions fill spray or squirt bottles for application to the fabric.

5) Pre-soaked fabric: Before dying, the fabric has to be pre-soaked for about 15 minutes to an hour in a solution made from a cup of soda dissolved in a gallon of water. This is also known as soda ash. 6) Application of dye: Apply the dyes with the aid of squeeze bottles or sprayed onto the tissue. This is the best part of the process, but you should wear gloves when you do. Remember that you are dealing with chemicals here. Allow the fabric to be for 8-24 hours. 7) Washing the fabric: After you have to wash the fabric in cold water very carefully. You should wash very well after a day of applying the dye. These clothes should be washed separately from other clothes until they are completely colorfast. Once you know how to tie dye assure you that the weekend will not be boring, as it is a fabulous pastime activity.
