MODEL Buildings are designed in masses and in floors to meet the code of Chicago, with retail on the bottom floor.
HOW? By planning the area with unprecedented programs to develop the office-based site into a mix-used downtown area.

KIOSK 312 I Possible Locations I
MILLENIUM PARK
E CHICAGO AVE
GOLDCOAST
Kiosk 312 has a flexibility to be placed to any location along the lakefront. Also, it is very accessible from any direction by designing it as a squared-shape. It will have an effect on surrounding area not only as a commercial but also as a public art.
KIOSK 312 I CHICAGO BIENNIAL I
“I wish I can be a part of the city.”
“Much better! But I want to interact with people more.”
PURE FORM By turning you into a pure shape 12x12x12, you will be multi-directional and be more accessible.
The Kiosk
“First, I want to be multi-directional.”
ICONIC ART 312 is a historic number of Chicago. Using it as an elevational component, people will remember you easily and you can even function as a iconic sculpture.
“Lastly, I want to be part of people’s memory and hold people’s memory.”
MEMORY
KIOSK 312
Originated from the historic frame created by the number 312, the voided frames will be filled with functions and activities of people. During the winter, they will be removed and act as a public art sculpture.

WHAT? The site is located in the west of downtown, in the Detroit Central Train Station, renovating it as a cultural center that accomodates hotel, atelier, residential, and museum.

Renovate Public St Tempora
The Distributed Node aims to reactivate a desolate Detroit through an act of diffusion. Recognizing the improbability of maximizing the redensification of Detroit Central Station, the distributed node constructs a strategy for revitalizing the surrounding neighborhood acting as a catalyst, instead of a collector.

VOID / SURFACE The varied residencies and agencies of a new Station for the Arts are woven into the city fabric – repurposing vacant and abandoned buildings, constructing new purpose-built low-rise infill, and celebrating the potential return to grandeur of the ground floor of the historical station. The upper floors of the station remain an icon of the city’s past and current history – now standing hallowed and hollowed above a vibrant community network of artists live and work spaces, short stay travelers, neighborhood event spaces, and family homes.
“I am going to pick up some fruits from the market.”
“What a good play. I’ll have to look at the exhibition later.”
“I really enjoyed the recent art collection on display at the station.”
“Let’s go to the market after we finish our meeting at the cafe.”
“I am going to the art store and set up our exhibition in the Void. Coming?”

DISTRIBUTED NODE Having one renovated building in the center of the city (train station) will not solve the problem of rehabilitating the city. The solution is to repurpose the regular housing into programs where people would come back to the city. There are five types of program involved in the renovation: hotel, office, atelier/ hotel, atelier/cafe, residential.
