Collaborative Working space I worked as an Intern at The Hive, which is a company that provides collaborative workspaces all over Asia. I was in their design team that was responsible for designing their upcoming projects and dealing with maintenance problems and constantly improving their space. 8
During this internship, I have taken part in sourcing furniture and lighting, communicating with suppliers, furniture detailing, suggesting layout planning, contractual drawings, photoshop rendering. From this experience, I have learned the flow of a project and have a better understanding of different design stages and construction process. Working as a team also taught me to be a good team player as well as developed my communication skills.
3D Renderings This project is located in Carpenter, Singapore. I am helping with the 3D modeling, rendering, Photoshop touch up for this project. The renders on the left page is their Bar/ Lounge Area on one of their levels in their office. The two renders here are on two different floors, including some hot desk, dedicted desk and private office areas.
9
Furniture Sourcing In this Singapore project, besides on rendering, I also helped with choosing and sourcing the furniture and lightings within the design, contacting the suppliers and getting quotations.

CONCEPTUAL PROJECTS 13
Veganism is not a new thing, but the step of being a vegan usually base on people actively search for the information online, there is no proper education. The journey is not as easy when people around you may have opposition and some people may decide to give up. The project will be targeting vegan/ vegetarian as well as the public. The objective of this project is to create a community for vegetarian and vegan to share their experience and thoughts, to give them support on the path of the practice of a vegan lifestyle, to make it an enjoyable thing and assist them to persevere with it. Provide beginners mental preparation and advice of a vegetarian/ vegan diet that is most suitable for them and assists them to achieve a vegan lifestyle as a final goal. The project also has a mission of spreading the idea of veganism and educated them about the benefits to themselves, animals and the planet. By education and provides opportunities for them to experience a vegan lifestyle, to convince them to be a part of the community. The style of the design aim to break the the stereotype that vegan restaurant has to be clean and minimal. The brand create an image of friendly neighbourhood restaurant that people can not tell it is vegan without the menu, but it is still have that ecofriendly image that customers can trust.

The project shall be accommodated within a historical site which was used as a cattle quarantine and slaughter centre for more than 90 years. It is the former Ma Tau Kok Quarantine Depot in Hong Kong and now known as Cattle Depot Art Village that is home to numerous local artists’ studios, workshops or gallery. The site is chosen to be a memorial to animal slaughtered and also a reminder of history. Visitors can experience the same space where animals use to suffered, see things in the point of view of those animals sacrificed to be our food and reflect on the necessity of that. Located in Ma Tau Kok which is a small community with a unique style in architecture which makes the distract a tourist spot. 17
Rebirth, the idea came from the propose of the building, from a slaughterhouse to a vegan restaurant/ centre. Another meaning is the process of being a vegan/ vegetarian, it is like you have been reborn, with a different diet and lifestyle which is a big change in life. There is a transition in rebirth, from an old life to a new one. And the transition process is important and can be difficult as a vegan/ vegetarian, the SOU3 aim to company you in this process. For a building, the transition process is going through constructions. Therefore, the design of SOU3 is inspired by the elements of a construction site, elements like scaffolding, crane, reinforcement steel work etc. The Building is one of the 5 buildings in the Cattle Depot Artist Village and it is in a single level. To better the use of space, an extra level added in the design. The extension aim at not losing the historic elecment of the facade but at the same time to maximize the useable space as well as natural light coming into the building. The roof is raised and a part of it is cut for the rooftop garden. The extension is designed to be able to identify the existing part and the new build by using glass and metal and avoid using bricks that are too similar to the original finish. Roof trusses are used as a partition between terace/ roof top garden.

Display Shelves with Bench / Divider
The narrative exhibition is about the history of the site, which is a cattle depot centre and a slaughterhouse. Visitors will walk through the process of beef production, understanding the story behind a meat diet. One of the scenes is where the carcasses are hanged and stored. Display boards are cut into the shapes of carcasses and printed on one side, the other side will be written text or digital screens that interact with visitors. The boards are hanged with hoots that can be twisted, visitors can rotate the boards to find out what is on the other side. The aim of the design is hope visitor will have a guilty conscience and consider to go vegan, this can be a turning point for someone.

Extra attention is made in product/ material usage and furniture selection, ensure it is a vegan design, which means everything within the design do not contain, harm, torture or exploit any conscious being, no matter human or animals. Most of the materials chosen are recycled/ reuse because of the concept ‘Rebirth’, wasted materials are reborn to another materials in the design. Sustainable considerations is also applied to the design as an environmental issue is one of the supports of veganism. Therefore, most of the material used are either made of recycled materials or reclaimed or reused, it is also rebirth for the materials. The concept of rebirth is also applied in the furniture. Most of the furniture in the design is custom made, using recycled materials or reuse unwanted items and turn them into another usage, such as creating display shelves with unwanted reinforcement steel bars and display tables using shipping pallets. For smaller furniture like chairs, coffee tables and sofa, secondhand items will be sourced. Therefore they will not be in uniform design but in different shapes and colours. However, to match with the theme, they will be in industrial style.

Lane 7
B ow l i n g B a r a n d Re s t aur ant
This is a relatively small project comparing to the others that I have done. We were required to redesign a 3 levels staircase space and a lift hall inside a bowling bar and restaurant called Lane 7. 28
The concept glitch means a short-lived fault in system like TV, Electronics, Computer and video games. In this project, staircase and lift lobby are designed. Glitch mostly occur in the older days, when techonlogy is not that developed yet. Which fits the vintage style of Lane 7. At Lane 7, there are a few Arcade game machines with pixel images which reminds me with the interesting glitch screen. There are quite a few similarity between staircase and glitch. Glitch may cause a sudden pause in your action. And for staircase, while you are walking up or down the stairs, you will stop your game, dinning or drinking. In terms of duration, glitch usually will not occur for a long time. Stairscase as well, people will not stay there long. The function of staircase is to take you from one place to another. And glitch is a interim. The fence is formed with different sizes of rectangle overlaping. This gives a pixel like effect which apper on the screen when glitch occur. Acrylic is placed in some of the fame as a highlight and for the others steel mesh is placed. The colour selection is inspired by the colour bars on oldschool TVs where glitch always happens.
29
Instead of using pine wood for a notice board, mesh frames are used to form a wall. So that posters can be cliped on to the surface. There are light strips placed on the top and bottom behind the mesh.

In the learning process, it is important to learn from the past, not only learn from your own past experiences but also from others’. Our existing knowledge is mainly based on the knowledge or discovery of people in the past, then we further develop our own. When it comes to building, we also learn from the masters from teh past. Inspired by this, some of the design elements are extracted from classic buildings and architecture style. To create a design that contains elements of the past but still have a modern style.

Leeds College of Building The objective of the project Leeds College of Building is to create a healthy environment where encourages student to learn and inspires them. Other than the lobby and reception/ greeting area, I have chosen the cafeteria and learning space to further design in detail. 33
The design of the layout is inspired by the patterns of classic tiles and stained glass window. After studying the geometry of the patterns, elements such as grids, repeating and rotating patterns is applyed to the plan. Curves and circles are widely used in the layout design as these are some key elements of those classic patterns.
Reception and Welcoming Area Floor Plan 34
The reception is designed on the right of the entrance, where staff can support student with their inquiry and problems. It contains a counter desk, meeting rooms and lounge seats. The backdrop of the reception is designed to be able to slightly see through the meeting rooms behind, this make it easier for students to find them. The timber strips also separate the two levels. There is a projecting screen that keep students updated with schedule and news. Students can see the changes in classes arrangement once they entre the building.
The cafeteria contains a kitchen that serves food, a coffee bar and a self-service kitchen that allow students to preheat their food or prepare a simple meal. The cafeteria is designed in three levels and each level is suggested the time people are planning to stay, whether you are just there for a quick meal or staying a bit longer to have a proper meal with friends.
Furniture
Cafeteria Floor Plan
Different seat combinations are designed to suit different activities that may happen there. It is not just a space for dining and socialising but also can be space for students do their work, especially the offpeak hours. There are seats for different size of groups, from a small group of 2 to a bigger group of 8, there is a place for them. Plants are installed in the area as there are researches that find out green design can actually promote people’s interaction as well as efficiency and wellbeing.
35

36
The learning space is where students can work, study and have discussions or group meetings. The space is separated by steel and glass to divide the silent and working and group meeting area. The silents area is for students who need a quiet space with more privacy to work or study. Inside the silent area, there is also space for students to have a rest or nap so that they can refresh and continue with their work and studies. The learning area is opposite the cafeteria so students can look down from the window and see the queue during the lunch hour and decide when to go down to have lunch.
Brick was chosen to be the feature material in the design. Besides stone, brick is another most commonly used material in historical architectures. It is more affordable and it also gives a nice red colour to the design. It is used in the cafeteria and a feature wall at the lobby that connect 2 levels. On the first floor, materials with sound prove effect was chosen, such as carpet and felt fabric polyester.

Enter the duration of your trip
Reviews of filtered books will turn up with suggested reading time but the titles of the books will not be shown
After choosing the book, scan the library card, either a physical one or digital (with your phone).
Collect your book from the machine and bring it to your journey. Enjoy!
Passengers can return the book to another station.
How to return a book? Scan the book to return after getting off the train.
Return the book into the collecting tray of the book vending machine.
The machine will ask if you recommend that book, if yes, who?
Write a review of that recommended book, then submit the review.
Continue to return another book.
39
Books are being donated by organizations or the public and the vending machine have an option of book donation. Donators can also recommend their books like and the process go the same as returning books. The books vending machine is placed in the original openings of the station building. With just one entrance and limited windows. It is designed to be see-through so people can see inside the library. It is a multi-function machine that not only for people borrowing books, but also returning, donating and recommending books. The returning function is designed outside the library so people may not need to enter the library every time.

Passengers can spend their time reading indoor, comfy and warm, while waiting for the train. They can borrow a book and finish it or take it on the train and return it in another station. Bigger stations that Morpeth trains will go/ pass such as Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds Birmingham and London King Cross, bins collecting returned books can be placed. Small country town like Morpeth can also have the same system applied inside the stations. So that people from these small towns can exchange their idea or can communicate through books. The idea of the library is not about finding what you are searching, but exploring and discovering, and maybe you can find a new interest! The books inside the library are not classified according to categories or alphabet, but in the order of suggested time needed to finish the book, therefore passages can choose according to the duration of their train journey. The café is within the library that allows people warm up and can also act as a waiting room. For proper libraries, eating and drinking are usually not allowed, however in this library it is. So, people can enjoy their coffee and reading at the same time. It also has the function of attracting people in the library as not every people likes to read, but every people loves a warm drink in a cold weather! And they will probably walk around the library after that.

1/F Floor Plan In a design museum, is a place about idea exchange. Visitors receive ideas from the exhibits. For designers, it is a place to deliver ideas to visitors and also a place where designers themselves can exchange their ideas. Idea is a very abstract, to represent it, people may use the ‘Idea Bubble’ to symbolize the meaning of ideas or thoughts of someone. An idea bubble is formed with different sizes of ellipses overlapping. Inspired by the form of that, circles and curves are the major elements on the floor plan. Instead of grid planning, the Design Museum uses circle planing while designing the master plan.

The retail part of the museum is a designer store. Designers and designer firm can consign their products in the store. Therefore the products selling are collection from different designers.
The type of product are mainly unique lifestyle items that are creatively designed like home accessories, furniture and decorative items. The aim is to promote design industry by provide chance for small designers or firms to rise their reputation and to encourage them to run their own business. Visitors can also discover new design items.
45
The store is located near the entrance, so that visitor can visit there either before or after their visit to the exhibition. People on the street may also attracted to the museum by seeing the store. There are three parts in the design store. One for placing larger items such as furnitures. The second part is the cashier and around it is area for placing smaller items. The last part is for selling souvenir or the design product that are related to the showing exhibition. So items placed that area will change according to the change of exhibition. Around the staircase, there is a circular curtain that is formed by steel strips, each steel strip spin a little to create the effect of visual from visible to invisible. So that people inside can see though the stair case but cannot see the reception behind.
