More than 25,000 customers use melitaWIFI Users can access wireless connections in several outdoor locations as well as indoor hotspots 24 October 2014, 1:35pm
More than 25,000 Melita customers are making regular use of the company’s free next generation Wi-Fi service – melitaWIFI. MelitaWIFI is available for free to all melita mobile customers, and gives access to high speed Wi-Fi in some of Malta’s busiest outdoor zones and at more than 35,000 indoor hotspots. “This is an exciting milestone for Melita, and we see an exponential growth in users and usage on melitaWIFI. Customers using melitaWIFI benefit from superfast speeds and a massive 10 Gigabyte bundle of free internet access. "Their feedback is very positive and it can be seen in usage growth – so much so that internet access by melita mobile customers over melitaWIFI has now surpassed traditional 3G internet access. As we roll out more outdoor zones across Malta and Gozo these numbers are only set to grow further”, commented Ludolf Rasterhoff, COO at Melita. Getting access to melitaWIFI is very simple. On connecting to a melitaWIFI zone you’re asked to enter your melita mobile number and a pass code is sent back by SMS. Enter this code and you’re connected and browsing wherever melitaWIFI is present. Melita customers who do not have mobile service may access the service using their MyMelita login details. The outdoor zones include amongst others the St Julians to Sliema promenade from Spinola all the way to Qui-Si-Sana, the Strand, Republic Street and Merchant Street in Valletta, Paola and Mosta centres and the Marsascala promenade. More locations will be announced shortly and a full list is available on melita’s website. As part of a promotional period, the melitaWIFI service is also available for free to all melita customers until the end of the year 2014. For more information on melitaWIFI go to www.melita.com/WIFI

HSBC’s Catch the Drop adds an international dimension with special songs BY GOZO NEWS · OCTOBER 27, 2014
Through the support of HSBC Bank Malta’s Water Programme, a group of students who attend Our Lady Immaculate School (OLIS) in Hamrun has recorded two original international songs in support of ‘Catch the Drop’ initiative. The songs embody the spirit of HSBC’s three-year-long, €500,000 initiative which raises more awareness of water scarcity in the islands and stirs action around water conservation. The group of nine students were the vocalists for the songs, with lyrics and music created and performed under the direction of OLIS’ music teacher Maria Cachia Abdilla, a certified IVA Vocal Instructor, in collaboration with Maestro Sandro Crippa from Florence. With their long history of collaboration, the duo has previously worked together in the Gen Fest 2012 Sportarena, Budapest and Life Love Light 2010 Nervi Hall, Vatican City. Earlier in May, OLIS, led by school principal Audrey Galea, proposed the idea of two international songs to HSBC Bank Malta during a ‘Catch the Drop’ campaign stopover while being visited by HSBC Global Corporate Sustainability senior manager of Environmental Programmes, Sue Alexander. The team was moved by the proposal and work began in earnest, from writing of lyrics, to selection auditions to recording. Currently, the songs are being finalised and will be launched at the start of ‘Catch the Drop’ campaigns for scholastic year of 2014-15.
