CREST SYMBOLISM

1. Class Year The number 22 that crowns the top of the crest clearly represents 2022. The abbreviated year resembles crests of the 70s and 80s, and it is fitting because we are the first class of '22. 2 The American Flag The flag flies high at the top of the crest. It reminds the class of what we are defending, and it is raised above all else to symbolize service before self.

3. Class Motto The Latin phrase "Virtus in Sacrificio" is on a banner under the class year. It translates to "Strength in Sacrifice." This class motto, which the class of 2019 gave to us, means that we must forfeit our safety, comfortability, time, and individualism to overpower the enemy. 4 . Polans The Polaris Star, centered in the design above the eagle, reminds us to strive towards excellence and integrity. It shines brightly over the crest as a symbol of our duty to spread trust as we embark on our journey as Air Force officers. It is reminiscent of the Polaris Star on the crest of our Legacy Class of 1972.

5 Planes The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor defines air dominance. The fighter is a direct reference to '22. Its combination of stealth, speed, and agility make the most capable fighter in the Air Force inventory. The North American P-51 Mustang symbolizes our class exemplar, General Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. In this airframe, he flew several combat missions over Korea as flight leader for the 12th Fighter Bomber Squadron. 6. DJ Etched into the P-51 are the initials of General James.

7. Chapel The chapel is the most recognizable symbol of the Academy. Due to its closure for restoration, we included it as a personification of our ever-lasting challenge to self-improve as we begin our careers as Air Force officers.

8. Eagle As the emblem of the United States of America, the eagle is symbolic of freedom and fierce determination. It is attacking with talons out: like the class of 2022, it takes on any challenge without a hint of apprehension. This eagle resembles the one pictured on the crest of our Legacy Class of 1972. 9. Saber The saber is a symbol of leadership, and it represents our responsibility to protect our nation as members of the Long Blue Line. 10 Prop and Wings The eagle clutches the prop and wings as a representation of our unity. These are the same prop and wings General James wore following his graduation from the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Program at Tuskegee. It reminds us of the bonds forged in adversity, and it emphasizes our loyalty to one another.

11. Four Stars The four stars under the wings of the F-22 is another representation of the accomplishments of General James: he was the first African American in the Air Force to pin on four stars. As soon-to-be Second Lieutenants, we must continue to break barriers like this for the betterment of the Air Force.

Class Number Our class number in roman numerals LXIV represents us as the 64th graduating class of the United States Air Force Academy.

Characteristics: Cordierite (mineralogy) - gem variety lolite is a magnesium iron aluminumcyclosilicate.

Characteristics: The Widmanstatten Patterns show us that this stone is "Extra Terrestrial" - from outer space. These stones come from the Gibeon meteorite that is estimated to be 4 billion years old. This meteorite fell to earth over 10,000 years ago in Africa. It is made up of 91.8% Iron and 7.7% Nickel and also contains small amounts of Cobalt, Phosphorus, Iridium, Gallium, and Germanium. Polished with a dilute nitric acid to bring out the Widmanstatten Patterns that are unique in each meteorite.

USAF A RING - TERMS -

RING SIZING

If you plan on making an initial deposit or you plan on paying in full when you placeyour order(s) you will need to bring a personal check or money order. Jostens will no longer be taking any credit or debit card information at the time of ordering.

To properly size your finger, a ring sizer should fit snugly over the knuckle of the finger on which you will wear your ring. The ring is normally worn on the ring finger of either hand. Also, be aware that your left and right hand can vary in ring size. Full and half sizes are available.

You will be given a payment due date that will be located on the front of your order form. This date is when your final payment will be due to Jostens. By complying with this date you will insure that your items will ship with your Class.

AJostens representative will be available to assist you at the time you place your order.

CUSTOMER STONES

You have 10 days from the time that you place your order(s) to make any changes. After the 10 days your order(s) will be entered into production at which time you will no longer be able to make any changes.

All customer supplied stones must be accompanied by a registered jeweler's appraisal form . The form must include the following information on it:

You will need to allow (3) weeks from the time you place your order(s}, after the (3) weeks you will then be able to log onto: Jostens.com/payments to set up your personal account and begin making payments. Once you have set up this information you will begin receiving e-mail notices until your account is paid in full.

If the stone is a Diamond the following information must be included: Carat Size, Cut, Color and Clarity. If the stone is a full stone (12 x 10, 10 x 8, 8 x 6, 7 x 5, or a 5 x 3), the measurements need to be on the appraisal form in millimeters and they need to be to the specifications that are listed below. No stones will be accepted that are not to these specifications. All appraisals must include a replacement price. If the stone is an heirloom stone we will need a replacement value. If the stone was purchased then we will need a copy of the sales receipt. All stones must be loose and free from any mounting. Stones will not be accepted if they are still in a mounting. Because of the extremely tight tolerances, personal stones under 10 points will not be accepted.

INSURANCE Jostens will provide each cadet with ONEclass ring replacement for a fee of $150.00. This will be in effect for one year following receipt of the ring. This replacement includes genuine stones purchased from Jostens. It does not cover any cadet supplied stones.

MEASUREMENTS FOR CUSTOMER SUPPLIED STONES

Exceptions: If the Academy has started disenrollment procedures on a cadet, this insurance becomes void. Acadet who loses his/her ring after initial disenrollment procedures have started will not receive a ring replacement, nor will they be eligible for a refund of any portion of their ring.

All Customer stones must be to these exact measurements. There cannot be a variance as these stones have a stone setting edge. One exception is the depth of the stone which can be less but not more than the measurement listed.

Jostens has a lifetime warranty on all of its rings. That includes, but is not limited to, replacement of all stones, both genuine and synthetic, that are defective or broken, without charge. Also included in the lifetime warranty is resizing, polishing and refinishing the ring, without charge.

All stones will be inspected by Jostens manufacturing plant for final approval. This approval process can take up to 90 days from the time we receive your stone. All stones must be presented along with the jeweler's appraisal when you place your ring order. Customer stones must be received within 30 days from the date you placed your ring order. If you lose your ring, your personal stone or stones are not covered under Josten's protection insurance. Additional Charges incurred when setting a customer stone: stone setting charge $150.00. Stone set in a tube set, or awhite gold top: add $75.00 to the setting charge for a total charge of $225.00

SALES & SERVICE A Jostens representative will be at the Academy Library periodically during the academic year to answer questions and to provide assistance for any service or warranty work that may be required. This service begins in August and continues until graduation. The exact schedule will be announced
