Welcome To Pontotoc County’s
Bodock Festival
Everyone has worked so hard to bring you the biggest and best Bodock Festival since the idea first hit the ground in 1994. We welcome you to Pontotoc and the fun that is ahead of you and your family. Wear you comfortable shoes and get into step with the activities that are scheduled for your entertainment and enjoyment. This is a celebration we look forward to for a year. The weather is still warm, schools back in session, football games have started, but Bodock time is a special time for all. This year will not disappoint you, from the Firemen’s famous Pancake Breakfast at the #1 Firehouse on Main Street to the bigger than life stage in front of the Chancery Clerk’s office. Things are changing in appearance, but not in fun. We want everyone to have a great experience in their visit to Pontotoc, where family comes first and we love every second. A big THANK YOU goes to our sponsors who have invested in your entertainment and enjoyment for the Bodock Festival. Without our sponsors we would not be able to highlight our great community. Visit the Antique Car Show at the Jr. High. Parking lot Saturday morning, the Arts & Crafts vendors with the flea market vendors on Main Street on Friday and Saturday, Children’s Corner Friday night and Saturday along with the list of entertainers on the big stage. Entertainment starts Friday at 6:00 with the welcome from the City and County with help from school groups starting our music program until 9:00 Friday night. You are in for a treat Saturday with special guest Hannah Roye at 6:00 with Trent Harmon at 8:00. Bring your lawn chairs and plan to spend some time on Main Street with all your friends at the Bodock Festival in Pontotoc. Bodock Committee Pontotoc Co Chamber/Main Street Assn

Friday Headliners
Legends of the Blues
Get ready to dance your socks off! Pontotoc’s own Legends of the Blues will be performing vintage songs from the 50s and 60s to the latest hits in a musical journey that features crowd-pleasing free beach balls thrown from the stage. Band members are Barney “T-Bird” Harris, Robert Gordon, Mark Stewart and Yusuf Nurredinn. Having performed with some of the hottest stars and toured throughout the South from Memphis to the Gulf Coast, this group will take you back to when poodle skirts and hula hoops were cool and Cokes® cost a nickel.
Mississippi Queen
Friday’s closing performance will be headlined by the Mississippi Queen, a country rock band from Northeast Mississippi. Led by vocalist Amy Hollon, they bring a variety of the best female vocal songs from different genres from the 60s through today. Mississippi Queen is a 2017 Nominees for Best band in Mississippi, Best Alternative band, and Mississippi Roots band by the Mississippi Music Foundation. Band embers include Amy Hollon, Paige Hutcheson, Joseph Newell, Skip Vuncannon, Witt Lucas and Jonathan Hall. They also have over ten original songs. 10

Tanglefoot Trail Bicycle Ride The Tanglefoot Trail Bicycle Ride will get off and going at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Bobby McGee, the coordinator for the Tanglefoot Trail Bicycle Ride, said that more than 200 riders are expected for this year’s trail ride. “We’re inviting everyone to come out and enjoy the beautiful Tanglefoot Trail and experience a fun way to improve your fitness and also to enjoy the beauty of the area surrounding Pontotoc,” McGee said. Bike ride participants will have three trail distances to choose from, including: Metric Century (100k, 62 miles), Half Metric Century (50k, 31 miles), and 10k (6.2 miles). “Our plan is to have something for everyone,” McGee said. The Metric Century will once
again offer two different courses - one that is mostly flat with gentle slopes and one with several challenging hills. “Have it your way - hills or no hills! All courses are well marked and patrolled by volunteers to assist with any needs that may arise. The courses will also have aid stations stocked with water and snacks.” Finisher medals will be awarded to all who complete the event! Riders will also enjoy post ride food and beverages at the 1st Choice Gateway in Pontotoc. McGee noted that children are encouraged to enter and parents are welcome to stroll those who are too young to bike. “We want everyone to have
an enjoyable experience and to see first hand what Pontotoc and the Tanglefoot Trail have to offer.” Entry fee costs are: Metric Century and Half Metric Century $45 and the 10k is $30. Proceeds from the ride will be used to benefit the Tanglefoot Trail. Participants may register online at racesonline.com The ride will start at the 1st Choice Gateway. “We hope to demonstrate the value of the Trail to the local community by having a strong turnout.” The 1st Choice Gateway to the Tanglefoot Trail is located on College Street in downtown Pontotoc, across from Reeder’s Farm Supply.

Town Square Post Office Fun The Bodock Festival will premiere some of the best musical acts from across the state of Mississippi. And Pontotoc is no stranger to those who have made their mark on the music industry. Come to the Town Square Post Office both Friday and Saturday to explore the wonderful world of music Pontotoc style. In addition to that, Laura Sydney Fisher will be on hand to sign her second book in a series of haunted stories taken from interesting Pontotoc history. Nobody knows our roots like the people who belong to the historical society. If it’s history you love to dig into, make sure you stop at the Town Square Post Office and Museum on Main Street in Pontotoc as you will go back to our roots. All kinds of historical nuggets are hidden in the confines of the building, neatly tucked into every nook and cranny of the various and sundry rooms. From arrowheads and stones of the Chickasaws, to the iron horse era of the railroad coming to town, you will find a variety of things to handle and read. Pontotoc’s rich heritage stretches from Davy Crockett to the recent Iraq war.You can learn how thread was spun or how butter was churned. And if you are wondering where your winding roots grow, there is a repository upstairs to help you chase that family tree. But don’t forget to check out the carriage room and remember a quieter, simpler time in life when the horses went clip clop down Main Street and the old men whittled under the trees. Come by and visit the museum from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. during the Festival. You just might bump into someone from YOUR historical past.
