The world of OMM... Modern life is all about the now. Knowing why and how things do what they do and why people are who they are. But more than that, there is a constant need to change, to always be going somewhere. Is OMM pronounced ‘OMM’ or is it spoken O, pause M, pause M…? Is it meant to sound like a thought process or an acronym? The Original Mountain Marathon is still the ‘blue ribbon’ event of the UK adventure racing calendar. Two days of unremitting challenge in potentially the worst weather of the year in unforgiving terrain. It is not about youth over age or skill over fitness but a balance of the personal skills of a team of two used to survive and complete the event. Year after year they enter even though there are many who find the challenge too great. But when everyone gets home and starts blogging the sense of community and achievement is overwhelming. This event will always be called ‘The OMM’ and the competitors given great respect. But what of the more tangible part of O–M–M? The equipment and the clothing. This is again a team effort. What we provide is part of the joy and the experience of the journey and it is our wish that the human challenge that the event provides is matched by the pleasure that we can all get out of the design, production and use of what we make.

Here we have tried to take the concept of Leanweight a few more steps further. There is a pre-occupation with lightness among the competitors in the event but this is not at any cost as they also expect a durability in the performance. This is why we talk about the possibility of the purchaser being able to customise the product that they have bought so that it more suitably fits their needs. Lightness often takes away durability and functionaiity so we are always looking for those unique solutions which meet both needs. The massive success of our KAMLEIKA Race series of clothing launched in September 2009 has shown us that we can offer something that is uniquely Oâ&#x20AC;&#x201C;Mâ&#x20AC;&#x201C;M. The highlights of the collection for Autumn/Winter 2010 are seen in the new clothing.

LEANWEIGHT

The Multisport Compressor (MSC) gives compression and load carry:

We don’t all use our OMM packs in the same way or for the same things and the features we require vary accordingly. For example, some people like to use a hydration bladder; some people like to use bottles. OMM specially creates parts of the pack that can be removed to produce a personally optimized leanweight product. We also provide instructions in our product manuals (www.theomm.com) for one-time customization. This is an invite to get the scissors out and remove features while, if done to our guidelines, not invalidating your guarantee. Our quoted LEANWEIGHT is the pack weight if you take all removable parts off. LINK system OMM packs are designed from our Mountain Marathon experience. However, we use them for many other things. The LINK system allows us to join OMM products from throughout the range in a modular system to create a pack that is unique to the user and tailored to travel, ski, climb or anything else.

We design parts of our packs to have dual or more usage. the Duomat is both a back system and a sleep mat: The Universal Gear Rail (UGR) allows you to carry a very versatile set of Kit from Axes to Snowshoes and beyond. Hydration All Packs are designed for endurance sports so water carry and accessibility is essential. Stability Packs need to be stable for comfort while active. Harness attachment & compression systems keep the load tight to the back and stable. Strength OMM Leanweight chassis system and technical fabric selections provides strength at minimal weight. On The Move Accessibility Most of your kit will not need to be accessed while moving. However, water, food, compasses and maps etc. are essential to keep at hand for easy on the move access.
