Introduction
HOW TO BE HUMAN
Art is for communicating intangible things such as emotions, senses, and experiences through the tangible. In recent years, photography has become a mass consumed art form, branching out into media through advertising and journalism. Due to this, it has also become exploitative in recent years. A human subject may be “objectified” through the camera of a photographer with a specific agenda to portray the subject in a certain manner, or to evoke a specific emotion. For example, a woman is photographed in a specific manner to become an “object of sexual desire”, a photograph of african children depersonalizes them into becoming “objects to evoke sympathy”. It’s degrading and inhumane.
This book ‘s purpose is to propose a different perspective. How do we humanize the eye which has become accustomed to seeing humans as objects instead? What if we “humanized” objects instead? In the first place, what does it mean to be human? What makes us think and live and breath, and not just classified as an animal with taste and preferences? The philosopher Hannah Arendt said that what differentiates humans from animals is the fact that we have consciousness or free will, deeds, and words. Every birth carries with it the possibility of a changed world. Though everything in nature is objectively cyclical, we humans are born, not to die, but to begin. To identify what makes our existence truly matter, to realize art and to be revealed in it, it is something only possible through first, beginning, equipped with state of mind, physicality and live in close relation with others.
